We have created this dedicated forum where our visitors can discuss Rowan University. We hope you find this forum useful. Thanks!

As a parent of a junior tv/film student at Rowan, we couldn’t be happier. Our son has blossomed at this school, loves the campus, the student body, classes…everything about it. He had the choice to go to CC for next to nothing and then transfer, but chose to have MINIMAL loans in order to attend for 4 years and he says it was the best decision he has made. IMO the administration is engaged and approachable. The expansion over the last 2 years is impressive with the new apartments just opening this September (where our son lives and LOVES it) and the ‘college town’ plan is scheduled to open next fall, with a new Barnes and Noble serving as the bookstore, a Holiday Inn Express, shops and restaurants. He has loved it so much that our younger son is applying now for the engineering program which is highly ranked. There are exciting things happening here and I would recommend anyone interested in a quality education, close proximity to Phila., and great campus social events and entertainment to consider this school. In our opinion it’s the best kept secret in NJ and an EXCELLENT VALUE.

Glad to hear your son is happy at Rowan. Rowan is on my son’s short (still too long!) list. We just learned last week that he was accepted into the college of engineering and he’s pretty psyched about it.

My son is a junior and Rowan, having one of the top chem-eng programs, is on his list.

Son #2 was recently accepted into the mechanical engineering program for fall 2010. Also received a nice scholarship. He’s very excited with the Rowan acceptance/offer and has now narrowed it down to 2 schools…we will know by Dec. 15th!

1down1togo
What are his stats and what is the other school he is still thinking about?

GPA: 3.8 (uw) 4.6 (w)
SAT: 1270/1950
Rank: 30/390
Work experience, volunteer work, couple of clubs.

He was also accepted to Drexel and Rutgers but will decide between Rowan and Stevens Institute in Hoboken.

Good luck!

So glad to see Rowan finally has its own forum on CC! It’s a great school! My son was accepted to Rowan as an O-O-S student and liked the school a lot, though he ultimately decided to go elsewhere. He had a tough time making his decision!

We atr deciding between Drexel and Rowan for engineering. Any thoughts

We have been to both schools’ engineering departments. Here’s ‘our’ opinion:

Go to Drexel if you love Philly, don’t mind a quarter calendar or dark, dreary freshman dorms, are looking for a co-op program, want a larger, more diverse student population and have the money to spend.

Go to Rowan if you don’t mind living in a more rural area, if you want small engineering classes with one-on-one faculty interaction, if you are ok with a less diverse population, if you want close proximity to Philadelphia, top notch labs, a progressive and growing environment, and if you don’t want to be thousands of dollars in debt upon graduation.

Hope this was helpful. Our son came very close to choosing Rowan…hard school to beat for a quality engineering education at a reasonable price.

Good luck and let us know what you decide!

i am going to be an upcoming senior in highschool. My highschool career has been very good and i would consider myself with very good grades. Freshman year i had all A’s and B’s and maybe one C. Sophmore year, as i matured Became mainly A’s but some B’s. Finishing off my junior year, i enrolled in a math team and ive been activly involved in football all 4 years. Junior year, which is the mainly hard year i have achieved straight A’s.

The question i have is, at the current time, i have a 3.49 weighted gpa, and next year i will be taking an AP class and 1 honors class. Engineering is what i want to major in and my SAT’s are 1450. Is it possible to get my gpa up to atleast a 3.6 3.7 by the end of my senior year and will i be able to get into the college of engineering with these credentials. i also rank 73 out of 219 in my class and i plan to take my SAT’s again and ACT.

Also, i am planning to apply for an internship at any engineering firm that is willing to show me the ropes at becoming an engineer. Will this help? Any answers would greatly help considering Rowan is at the top of my list at the moment. Thanks

^^^ dhs:
Is 1450 SAT your combined total? (Math/Reading/Writing) If so, you should definitely work at raising that closer to 1900-2000. Taking the ACT is also a great idea.

I would recommend starting a thread in the engineering forum of CC. You can use a title like “Can I raise my GPA enough for engineering?” or something of that nature. Then copy and paste your message from above. My guess is you will get more responses there. Hope this helps and good luck!

my combined SAT scores is 1450 yes. It is very low but i am getting a tutor to help me so that i can raise these scores closer to 1900-2000. Also, does Rowan look at up to your junior year or do they take into consideration all of your grades including senior year?

Rowan, and most colleges, will use your final junior year transcript when making acceptance decisions. If you are placed on a waiting list, the respective college may ask to see your mid-senior-year grades as well to see if there is an upward trend.

Drexel is urban with the pros and cons. From my experience, administration at Rowan is more responsive. To my knowledge, Drexel is a 5-year plan with a year of paid co-op in between with a quarterly school calendar. I’m a fan of Drexel, it has a longstanding reputation, but esp for a NJ student, I’m not sure that it’s a better value than Rowan.

I just graduated from high school two days ago & on monday will be attending orientation for Rowan. What should i bring?

I realize this is a bit late, but, clearly Stevens is the best engineering choice in New Jersey. Rowan has nowhere near the established track record of Stevens (or Rutgers for that matter).

Once accepted to Rowan, when do they notify students of scholarships?

You must complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal and State Aid) first. Many high schools and financial advisors host FAFSA workshops. I recommend that you attend one ASAP. I think that the FAFSA deadline is 3/1/12, so you better get your 2011 taxes done; you’ll need your 1040 to complete the FAFSA. Go to the college’s financial aid webpage and to fafsa.edu.gov. THIS IS A MUST!!! Once the FAFSA is submitted, you probably won’t hear anything until shortly before HS Grad Day.

I know, I know. How can you buy something without having a clue what it’s going to cost you? Join a few million others.

FAFSA already in using last year’s figures. Taxes being done this week, then revising FAFSA. That’s ridiculous. I thought Award letter came in time to make an informed decision about which school to attend and future costs. Yikes.
