What do you guys think about mormonism. If scientology is crazy, but christianity, islam ect are not. What do you consider mormonism. (I am christian, not mormon fyi). I think they are good people, but the religion is nuts. I have read a few books about it, and its alot of baloney.

I think all religions are crazy.

Not nearly as bad as the Jehovah's witnesses. I noticed a few weeks ago that there's a Kingdom Hall within 1.5 miles of my house!

The Mormons...

The missionaries are really kind and are nice-mannered people. Their theology is whacked up but at least they're not a dangerous cult to the point where they kill their members and disconnect families.

Their beliefs may be whacked out, but their members are very nice. With Scientology, I pretty much got kicked out of the Scientology building when they figured out that I didn't have much money. During the auditing, I said that I was scared of joining the wrong crowd.

You did the audit? did you take it seriously, or as a joke.

I took it as a joke. I did not present a name or anything, and I doubt they'll figure my face since I didn't reveal any anti-Scientology sentiment. But I think they could tell by my facial expression that I took it as a joke.

I also told them that besides frontal lobotomy, psychiatry and medications that mess with neurotransmitters actually work. You can imagine why they kicked me out.

One of my best friends is Mormon and I didn't know until about a year into our friendship.

I think that many religions are "crazy", but then again, many people think that my religion is a cult so I have no room to talk. Who are WE to judge what is "baloney"?

I wouldn't consider Mormonism baloney.

Anyone with basic critical thinking skills would call Scientology baloney, however.

This is why we should all become atheists and adopt a government policy of total anarchy.

One of my really, really, good friends is Mormon, so I have no problem...

No offense, but I don't consider them Christians.

Of course by definition Mormons aren't christians...or else why are they "Mormon" in the first place?

At least Mormonism is a real religion.

I don't know if it's true or not, but there was a rumor floating around my area for a long time that these two guys had a bet to see who could start a "religion" and get more people to join, and thus, Scientology was created.

have anyone of you been pursued by a late night comic book dispensing mormon outside a coffee shop or movie theater. Those little comics are nuts.

I know these guys dont represent mormonism either, I just think the comic itself was nuts.

^^ How can you really say for sure that's not how all religions were created? Jesus WAS a criminal, who says that he didn't just want to make people follow him? Simple, other than your faith, you can't. You WEREN'T there. [I'm not saying he was, but it's the same concept.]

Sorry, but people who are putting down other religions are just aggravating me.

It's just a rumor. L. Ron Hubbard was quoted to have said that the best way to get a million dollars was to start your own religion. He wrote some bull **** new-age philosophy called Dianetics. It soon became popular and decided to cash in with Scientology.

I refuse to put down Mormonism, but any whackjob cult like Scientology, People's Temple (Kool-Aid drinkers), Branch Davidians (Waco shootout), etc. deserve to be put down.

^ Why? Because of YOUR perceptions of them? Did you know that the Jews participated in mass-suicide? Should we call them "whackjobs"?

romanigypsyeyes-it's not a religion.

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

Now my mom's boss is a Scientologist. It's all about the individual, and as long as you have money, you can be a scientologist. This is pretty much why a LOT of Scientologists are celebrities-because they have a lot of money. It has nothing to do with the purpose of the universe or why we're all here. It's all about me, myself and I.

Just because people believe it, doesn't mean it's a religion.

^that was an entirely different situation. Although I do agree that we should not put down people because of their beliefs.

ETA: response to romanigypsyeyes

^^ Scientology fulfills that criteria. They believe they are a religion, how are we to say they aren't?

@romanigypsyeyes They were a sect of Jewish fugitives who were about to be defeated by the Roman army. Note how it's not representative of the Jewish population as a whole. Besides, more Samurai's commited suicide than the Jews because of imminent defeat.

Also note how it was a small sect (like the People's Temple) that decided to commit mass suicide.
