Well, scientology may be crazy, but what about mormons

They believe they are a religion, how are we to say they aren't?

...what other religion do you know of that isn't widely accepted as a religion? Obviously something's wrong if not everyone even accepts it as a religion.

The more you pay, the higher you progress. Doesn't sound like a religion to me.

Mormons are cool in my book. I care about them as much as I care about any other religion.

Now, the offshoots of Mormonism really freak me out (the polygamist sects that the Mormon Church publicly disowns).

XD we were laughing at my school one day because my cousin (who is a Mormon) works at the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf.

I didn't even realize it was weird until someone pointed it out.

Wicca. Druidism. Most neo-pagan religions.

romanigypsyeyes, you don't know much about Scientology obviously.

I'd recommend you check out a few sites before you start rambling on about us being very intolerant:

Operation Clambake - The Inner Secrets Of Scientology
Scientology associated deaths

romani- I don't know anyone who doesn't accept Wicca or Druidism as religions.

A lot of people are ignorant about them, yes, but they accept they're religions.

Scientology is just a cult, imo.

Liist, I actually do know a lot about Scientology. I spend a lot of time researching religions. You are applying YOUR standards to whether or not it is a religion. Go outside of your paradigm and realize that your standards are not the same as theirs.

Johnson, I know many who don't accept them.

They don't accept their beliefs. There's a difference.

Wicca/Paganism has been around for centuries...in fact, some argue that it's been around longer than almost any other religion.

Those who don't accept that it's a religion are simply ignorant of that fact.

If you ask me, it's more Epistemology than anything else.

^^ I think I have stated this before, I will accept freezone Scientology as a religion.

There are no standards when you charge hundreds of thousands for long-time members, disconnect family members, sue all your critics, and kill off members just for the hell of it.

^ Look, I'm not saying I agree with them. Far from it. The fact is though, that it is a religion people choose to follow and it IS a religion.

^ is Mcdonalds a religion then

Really? Interesting... I have yet to meet a single person who has told me they don't think it's a religion. Sure, a lot of people don't get it and/or hate it, but they claim it's a wacked up religion.

HGFM- Wicca has only been around since the 1920's at earliest... 1950's with Gardener. A lot of the beliefs are much older, as they stem from paganism.

mmhmm. I meant more Paganism than Wicca. My bad.

I'm not saying Scientology isn't a religion.

I think the thing we've all been bashing on is the organization called the Church of Scientology.

Tom, why not? If somebody believes that McDonalds created the world and they workship the creepy clown, why not? Whatever works.

romanigypsyeyes-

The point is, we have the freedom to believe that something isn't a religion just as much as you have the freedom to believe it is. Welcome to America.

I'm not going to put someone down just because they're a Scientologist. But that doesn't mean I have to think it's right or even a real religion.

No, my point was that McDonalds sells a product, Scientology sells a product, No other "religion" besides scientology sells anything, especially for a profit.

This is superfluous.

HGFM, I'm not questioning your rights. I am saying that it is not our place to determine what is and isn't a religion, nor is it fair of us to call any religion "crazy".

Invoyable, why? Because I am voicing an opinion that you disagree with?

Tom- I think we can say that some christian churches sell keeping your soul free from hell.
There are many that claim you have to donate to the church in order to get into heaven.

(although I still think the church of scientology is a cult, not a religion)
