Johnson-they do, but they're not representative of the Christian faith as a whole.

romani-you're applying your "standards" of how society should act...the same thing you just told us not to do where religion is concerned. Interesting, isn't it?

[ALL] Christian churches dont make you pay for anything anything, atleast to the best of my knowledge. To be considered a scientologist, you need to pay, pay alot.

I'm agreeing to disagree with all of you. You will not change my opinion and I will not change yours. We are merely going in hypothetical circles. Now THAT is the wonder of American freedom. :) Good day and Blessed be.

Let me resive my above post, The christian faith was formed with the "intention" of spreading jesus's message, whether you agree with his message or not is your own business. Scientology was created with the intent to make money for L Ron, and was and is operated like a business.

TomHirschfeld-They ask (and often encourage) members to tithe, as that is often the church's only form of income. However, I've never heard of a church that requires tithing, and they leave the amount of the tithe up to the individual member.

Johnson-I know, I was just trying to clarify. Sorry if I offended you. :)

Very well said. The people that originally spread the Christian church did not profit from money at all, they experienced quite the contrary.

I know, but tithing is not for profit, and I know of no churches that own cruise ships. The point is that the church is not operated like a business, scientology is.

The Church of Scientology is run more like a criminal organization.

It suppresses and intimidates critics, it sends private investigators, it occasionally kills off dissidents, and it reels in lots of dirty cash that is disguised in a clean disguise. In this case, it's "religious donations".

I hate the Mormon religion. My parents are Mormons and have forced their religion on me. Ive been to church every week for 17 years and realized a few years ago its a pile of ****. Mormons seem like nice people but they are really putting on a facade so they seem like nice, normal people and therefore get more members. there are a few that are not like this but the majority fit my description. They are always talking about how superior they are because they have the truth.
They also are masters of hiding information to fit their agenda. They whitewash their history so much that very few members know that Joseph smith had 33 wives, including a 14 year old and numerous women who were already married. He would send their husbands on a mission to England or someplace and marry them while they were gone. there are hundreds of facts like this that have been hidden or changed by the Mormon church. (1984, anyone?)
IMO Mormonism was just like scientology when it was started. Made for the leaders personal gain. It flourished into a religion because information was a lot harder to come by in those days and they isolated themselves in Utah making it possible to grow without opposition

I dislike extremist Mormons, but I dislike extremists of any religion.

I've known a few non-extremist Mormons, even spoken to some volunteers in front of Mormon churches handing out pamphlets and the such, and they've all been fine. I've had really interesting conversations with some of them, and imo, in order to be a fully educated person you have to know things about many major religions, because like it or not, religion means something to most people.

Methinks that Christians need more crusaders to fight those extremist Muslims. We also need to get rid of that Mosque in the way of the Jewish temple site.

Imo I think all religions are full of it.but scientology? I just see it as a massive cult.one of my neighbors is a scientologist.he's a great person and I <3 his kids like my siblings.i think everyone should belive what they want but when religions get into this 'we are supior to you because of our beliefs' it kinda ticks me off.imo hubbard=manson...and I forgot who said it.but most religions weren't created to make their creator wealthy.what kinda religion MAKES you pay for 'serenity'??? Mormons are ok except for the extremist...but I dislike all relious extremist lol. I choose not to affiliate myself with any religion because I have better thing to do lol.
