My fall 2004 gpa for the application to the UC's (mainly ucsb is where I want to go the most) was 3.028. @ UCSB the representative for the college told us that 'students w/a 2.8 GPA are the most likely candidates to become admitted."

well if that's not the case, my units are? I am taking 21 units right now to fulfill the 60 requirement for all the UC's prior to admission. You have to complete 60 units. I had no other choice if I wanted to get in for Fall 2005.

A counselor told me the way I am "approaching" the 60 unit requirement may not be good; meaning, they might not consider me, even though I exceed the GPA requirement.

Now I've been saddened that this might be the case.

What do YOU think will happen? If you have any knowledge of admission status, do post.

Your counselor doesn't know what he/she is talking about. They will still consider / accept you. Maybe your counselor means that taking 21 units may spread your resources too thin and lower your GPA which will not be good.

hey, thanks for the response, but guess what ?

well i always had a history of taking 10 to 14 units for each of my semester at my comm. college. i've never had "15 or above" each semester.

THIS is where the UCSB counselor said "it's going to convey problems..." ?

she did not say "you will not be admitted" - of course not, but she said, it can make them 'skeptical' considering the fact that you have taken a 'drastic amount' of units so suddenly.

does all this still not matter?

they accept you for fall 2005 admission based on your cumulative GPA acquired once you have COMPLETED your FALL 2004 classes at the community college, am I correct?

my cumalitive gpa (not term) was 3.028 once Fall 2004 grades were posted. the REP at UCSB said (as I stated earlier), applicants w/a 2.8 gpa are "Very likely" to be admitted.

Oh god, are you saying I will STILL get in, even though my units are 21, and I've not had a history of taking this many?

I'd be so delighted if you said yes...

But I need more people to CONFIRM this, if anyone is more knowledgeable about how the UC's (particularly santabarbara) conduct the admission process, you would be most helpful.....

didn't u already have a post on this. Decisions will be made soon. no worries. THe only thing u should be worried right now is bombing your classes.

21 semester units is like 50% of the units that u have now. DAMN. I'd would be pulling my hair if had 21 semester units to take. My cc doesn't even allow >16.
