Wellesley Class of 2019 EE Discussion Thread

Hi everyone!! Following in the footsteps of past Wellesley hopefuls, I’ve decided to start the Wellesley Class of 2019 Early Evaluation Discussion thread! Hopefully, this forum will serve as a place for us to commiserate together as we await our EE decisions.

Wellesley is one of my very top choices and I would be absolutely thrilled to attend! I’m hoping to double major in International Relations and East Asian Studies, with an emphasis on Japan.

Who else here applied EE?

My daughter has also applied EE. She is undecided on her major. Wellesley is such a fantastic place to grow and learn! Good luck to you!

I just applied EE as well! Got the email about Feb 23rd and got even more anxious, haha. It’s my top choice as well, I’m super nervous. I’m from India, and I’m undeclared on my major – probably something with History/International Relations/English, but still not too sure. Haha, good luck!!

My D applied EE…and now we wait! She got to visit, and sit in on a class, but didn’t do an overnight. If she gets that coveted likely letter, then she will probably plan another trip.

I did not know one has to request the interview way early back in early Dec :frowning: . I did the info session and tour in the summer and to be honest I don’t remember the AO ever mentioned the interview thing. In any case, obviously it’s too late. What do you all think about the importance of interview? As I mentioned, I did do the visit et al (all the way from the west coast) - hopefully that counts for something. And I have to say Wellesley is THE most beautiful campus I visited along the I95 corridor this summer.

If my counselor can submit my mid-year grades, does she still need to submit the first-quarter grades?

@Amherst5168 Me neither :frowning: I emailed Admissions on December 18th, three days after the EE interview deadline, but they told me:

“Please note that we can no longer grant interviews for Early Evaluation applicants. Interviews are not mandatory here at Wellesley, so you will not be at a disadvantage.”

And when I asked them if I could request an RD interview, they replied with:

“You could not request an interview, as the interview report would not make it into your file in time for review as an Early Evaluation applicant.”

I was really disappointed, as interviews are my strong suit and would have added something valuable to my application.

@autumnisque I don’t think so! Your counselor should just submit the mid-year grades.

@Ambitious19

Like you, my son was deferred by Princeton SCEA.
What other schools did you apply?

@SteventoCollege I applied to Berkeley, UCLA, UCSD, Davis, Penn, Duke, JHU, Stanford, Dartmouth, northwestern, pton (which you know I got deferred from lol) and of course Wellesley! I wish I applied to less reach schools and applied to more match/safety schools like Smith, Bryn Mawr, USC, George Washington, etc but I was unfortunately very arrogant at the beginning of this whole college app process and didnt realize how random admissions were. Now, I’m trying very hard not to fall too much in love with/get too attached to any of my schools.

@‌ Ambitious19

You are a very strong candidate for all the above schools. Just because you got deferred from Princeton does not mean that you are rejected from Princeton [yes, it is knock on your pride, but that is all there is to it]. You are very likely to get into at least 50% of your elite list.

No one can predict who is going to get in to which school just based on the SAT scores. Almost all of the elite schools look for the whole candidate. Looking at your accomplishments you are a very strong candidate for most of the above schools. A lot will count on your references and how many other similar candidates from your school have applied etc [most schools - the Ivies - do not take more than a handful of students from a single school. Almost like rationing, but some schools get better rations than others].

I guess it will be a tough decision for you in April.

Good Luck.

@Ambitious19 Nice to run into you again!

I applied chem and physics. I also missed the EE interview deadline, whoops. We’ll see how this turns out…trying not to get attached, especially since people have been reporting FA problems on here and I need as much FA as I can get

omg @hopefulperson!!! It’s great to see you again!! And seriously how did everyone but us and a few others not know about the EE interview deadline??

@Ambitious19‌ @hopefulperson‌ I wouldn’t worry too much. I did the interview, but it honestly won’t count for THAT much that you need to be worried! Wellesley is my first chice and I’m trying SO hard not to get attached hahaha. Hopefully I’ll see you two this fall!

I meant choice* obviously, haha ignore my typing

Hey everyone! I applied ee and it looks like, from the email I got, all credentials have to be received by today. Everything’s been submitted except one teacher rec that had to be mailed is still not showing up on the applicant portal as received. I’m freaking out a little…will they not review my app now? D: anyone else in the same situation? Should I switch to Rd or something?

@tamtiger Thank you for your kind words! I hope your daughter is loving Wellesley so far!

@mimsyborgs I think you should call Wellesley and explain your situation. It would be unfair for you to be deferred to the RD round, as the late teacher recommendation is not your fault and wasn’t really in your control.

@natasham haha hopefully it won’t count too much against me :frowning: how was your alumna interview?

@Ambitious19‌ Thanks for the advice! Fortunately, my school counselor was able to fax the letter to Wellesley today, so it looks like everything’s taken care of…whew!

@Ambitious19 well for me it was pretty good, but the thing is, apparently after my interview, she developed a hatred for my school and went all crazy on the next interviewee from my school. hahah so i’m really not sure, but apparently Wellesley called my friend and apologized and said it won’t be reflected on her app… that being said, she was lovely to me  i actually really liked her!

hi everyone!
Wellesley is one of my top choices right now (since I was rejected from my ED school, Bowdoin)
I didn’t apply for EE since I missed the deadline; so I just applied RD.

Is there any difference between EE and RD besides the February notification? thanks!
