anyway, i just e-mailed terri asking for a list of all the scholars' e-mail addresses. i'm not too sure if they have a privacy policy or sth like that, but if terri gives me the e-mail list, i'll distribute it to u all..</p>
<p>neha1: freeman scholarship is awarded by the freeman foundation to 22 people from 11 asian (not ASEAN) countries (2 from each country). it covers all costs (including the little things, like books n daily expenses) for 4-year BA program at wesleyan.</p>
<p>talking about the freeman foundation, i just read an article in the newest business week on a scandal involving AIG. i didn't really read the whole article, but i skimmed through it just to find whether any 'freeman' is mentioned, but i couldn't find anything, heh.. well, i just hope this scandal doesn't affect the future of our scholarships :D</p>
<p>iwan: the package we have been talking abt oughta be the matriculating package that tells us abt housing, school regulations, transportations blablabla and every weskid gets it. the 4-page letter is esp for we freemans though :) </p>
<p>ummmm a little warning abt the email list thing... the other HK freeman doesnt seem to like the idea of having his contact thrown around so try not to scare him with massive emails or msgs</p>
<p>@Iwan: Shen Bin in China received the 4-page letter too. He was even kind enough to 'read' it to me over MSN Messenger last night. So nice of him.</p>
<p>@Ly: Would be rather expensive to DHL the package to every weskid (or even all 22 of us for that matter).... though Bin did say Terri replied to an email of his, saying that our I-20's will be sent to us by courier around May 1st.</p>
<p>@Manda: I agree, Wallace might blow up if faced with a deluge of emails (sorry, but that's just the impression I get). Still, I would feel bad if we left him completely out of the loop. Perhaps you should ask Wallace about it before we put his email address into the mailing list.</p>
<p>The Freeman Scholarship doesn't get much publicity at all here in Malaysia. Would not even have known about it if not for a chance remark from my lecturer. Is this so in the other countries as well? In the 4-page letter we Freeman Scholars are asked to help spread the word....</p>

<p>the scholarship isnt well known in HK either, actually Wesleyan the school itself isnt famous in HK. most ppl are surprised when i told them i'm turning down UCLA for Wes, though the decision seems absolutely natural to me. actually i heard abt the scholarship like 3 yrs ago when Alice from my highschool got it and my Eng teacher told us abt it. i've been imagining how's gonna be like if i get it for all these yrs hahaha. And yeah we are told to promote the program to potential scholars... i think i'd go back to my highschool and talk to ppl abt my experience at wes or sth like that, feel like its my obligation :) </p>
<p>and gd news folks! i just received an email from Yuki from Japan who's a finalist. She didnt win the scholarship but she's coming to Wes after all! she knows one of the winners so we might be meeting our Japanese Wes scholar very soon. check out wes listserv for her msg and contact. weeeee im excited!</p>

<p>about the mailing list, i've received a reply from ms (or mrs?) overton and this is what she wrote (after congratulating me for being awarded the scholarship :) )
"I think that I will need to write to all the students who were offered the scholarship and ask them to write to you in order to be included. Our privacy rules are pretty strict, so I don't think I am able to simply provide you with a student's contact information without their permission."
she is so helpful, don't you think? as i wrote before, everyone at Wes seems to be really nice :) ok, hopefully the mailing list can be set up very soon!!!</p>

<p>Vietnamese are not very familiar with US education. I think the only name most people know is Harvard :D but Freeman Scholarship is very popular among students who want to study in the US. Well, after all, we don't have much money and rely heavily on financial aid/scholarships :)</p>
<p>@iwan: do you still have the link? I'd love to read about the scandal :D If you don't receive anything from the listserv, you should check again what kind of mailing you want. They have everyday mail and no mail at all... I check the board instead of reading mail, but well, it seems a little messy for me to keep up with. </p>

<p>I got 6As in HKCEE:), which i think is not sufficient to get into freeman. aihh, disgrace. Anyway i get a 1510 in sat (770 math 740 V), writting 730, math 2c 730, math 1c 670. Glowing recs. I think im getting in harvard, mit. But I have duke (wif full fin aid) now, waitlisted by columbia. Anyway, only one matters, im going to wesleyan, which i think is far mediocre compared with duke :(</p>
