West Campus house singles

Hey! I am an incoming transfer student to the class of 2010, and I was placed in a single in Hans Bethe. I was just wondering, how big are the rooms? I tried to find the info online, but I could only find the dimensions of some other single dorms and not for any of the west campus houses. thanks!

They're about the same size as others. Pretty square though, which is good, because the space is very usable. You can arrange your bed and desk/dresser in an L-shape to make the room feel bigger and to give yourself more floorspace.

Overall, it's a really nice dorm; brand new, pretty decent dining hall within.

Hey Dancergal92,
That goods news. I am also a transfer and applied for a west campus meal house, but I have not heard yet. When did you hear the news? And how? (email?, snailmail? etc )

lol this is kinda related haha

About the house meal plans (the house choice plan)….i understand how you get 50 meals at any other dining hall and the BRB’s, but how does the “unlimited access to meals within west” actually work?

Acerbic, it means that you can go into the dining halls in Becker, Cooke, or Bethe as many times as you want in a day while a meal is being served.

Oh k great, so there are set times… hanks! lol now I have to figure out why the online dining app isn’t responding haha

yeah, breakfast is from like 7-10:30, lunch is from like 11:00-3:00, and dinner is from like 5:00-8:00. I'm not really 100% sure on those times at all but it's something like that. Also, theres food in the pantries that you can access.

How do these pantries work?

How's the food in Becker? Is there really a taco bar? mmm lol

food changes every night, so some nights there are taco bars, or pasta, or pho. west campus food is really good - i'm partial to alice cook, since we got a new chef in the spring and he was awesome! (although our old chef was great too, and he moved to bethe!)
p/m me if you have any specific questions about west campus - just spent a great year there, and all of my friends are returning there in the fall (i will be abroad/interning all year!!!) - one will even be a student assistant in cook, so if you get placed there/know someone there, you will have fantastic programs to go to!! I'd love to answer any questions you have!

I'm fairly certain that your unlimited meals are limited to only your house. For example, if you live in Becker, you have unlimited meals there, but meals at Cook/Bethe count towards your 50 outside meals.

Also, lunch does not end at 3:00 as has been previously stated, but rather at 2:30 (not like anybody cares).

An, in my personal opinion, the food order of west campus dining halls is as follows: Bethe > Cook >> Becker.

haha where and what is Bethe???

i go to cornell and have never seen or heard of it. i hear about cook and becker all the time.

o_OOOOOOOOO @ "go to cornell and have never seen or heard of it"

i thought i was a mole!

Bethe is the newest dorm on West Campus...for which class of '18 was demolished...

those who used to live in '18 were moved over winter break into Hans Bethe House....

figgy, the pantries in all three houses have things left over from dinner such as cakes, pies, breads, coffee, etc.

Also, whether you live in cook, becker, or bethe you can eat in any of the houses as many times as you want. According to the dining site, " unlimited access to meals during designated service periods within the West Campus House System"

In my opinion, the food on west campus is good, but not great like the food on north. Without a doubt, bethe has the BEST food out of the three, followed by Cook and then Becker. Bethe has a much wider selection but the food also seems to be somewhat unhealthier.

Cakes and Pies? What about steak?

I was in Becker last year, and we only had unlmited within Becker. They either changed the rules, or it's a mistake.

Anyway, I agree that Bethe is the best (as I've stated), but I actually think the food is healthier than Becker and Cook. They have celery almost every day (yum) and the fruit seems fresher than Becker. It's just a better dining hall overall, though very similar in its setup.

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH Bethe is "Beta". i always hear it referred to as that so I didn't have a clue

Hey ceruleanyankee,
Thanks for offering to answer questions. I got a single in Cook. Can you tell me anything about those rooms? Approximate dimensions? Square or rectangular? Size of window? Size of closet? Floor material (Tile, carpet)? Heat system (e.g., thermostatically controlled by occupant)? Ceiling light? Restrictions (limits on wall hangings, etc.)? Etc. Etc. Thanks

You guys are jerks for saying something bad about Carl Becker! How could you!?!? lol damnit is the food not good or something? I mean there are three >>> before it when comparing it to the two other west campus dorms lol :( . I guess I need to catch a bite to eat in North as well if the food is great.

it's not THAT bad. It's very convenient to have a dining hall right downstairs...but, you'll probalby be using those 50 meals at other dining halls...

Apparently, the house deans like to go to Cook for breakfast and Becker for lunch... but maybe that's changed since the chefs switched around a bit.

i feel that you'll very rarely use those "50 meals at any dining hall" option because you will never have a reason to be on north campus and okenshields on central campus is terrible. However, you could make it a ritual with your friends to have brunch at RPU every weekend which is amazing.
