My daughter just found out yesterday that she received a Congressional nomination for West Point however, about a month ago she was mailed a letter telling her that she didn't pre-qualify and to not continue her application process.

After researching the requirements for the Military Academy I know that she is a strong candidate.

Has anyone ever heard of this happening before? It seems so odd. How on Earth could they say that they didn't even want to see the rest of her application when she obviously is good enough to beat out the hundreds of people who were competing for this nomination?

I understand that there are different levels of qualifying and that a nomination, in itself, doesn't mean you will be accepted but it certainly should account for something.

The best approach is for your daughter to contact the WP admissions people who sent her that letter to get a clarification on what exactly they meant. I assume the contents of the letter would have contained more specifics about the reason for them recommending she not continue the application process (which may be something you choose to not discuss in a public forum).

The MOC issues NOM’s using their own criteria which is different from how WP determines if someone is 3Q. While you can ask participants on any of the various online forums, the only real answer will be obtained from talking to WP admissions. You will find a lot of the same people participate on different forums.

What matters is what WP admissions thinks, not our opinions (or yours) of how strong a candidate you perceive her to be.
