I recently applied for and was accepted to this year's SLS. I've read the previous threads about SLS, and it sounds like a great opportunity for students looking to apply to the service academies. However, I am pretty sure that I am not a good fit for the service academies- I'm not to focused on athletics (though I do play sports) and I don't think I could stand four years there. I am wondering how worthwhile SLS is for students considering other colleges and universities but looking for a personal challenge.
Thanks.

If you are not serious about attending a service academy, then consider relinquishing your spot at SLS to another applicant. Many highly qualified applicants are turned down for SLS. A few years ago, my son was admitted to all four service academy SLS equivalents--he may have been the only one in the nation--and he attended three of the four (AFA, USNA & USMA @ West Point) foregoing the Coast Guard Academy to attend Harvard's SSP--and if you are not athletic the USMA @ West Point, as well as the USNA, will not be a pleasant experience. The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs is mostly classroom work & non-strenuous teambuilding exercises as it takes at least 3 months to get acclimated to the altitude of approximately 7,700 feet. My son loved all three experiences, but all three were different.
