Western Vs. Davis Admissions

Hello. I am a junior high school student and am very, very interested in becoming a veterinarian and have researched for about two months on the process. Since I live in California, I am considering going to Western or UC Davis.

Is Cal Poly Pomona a good place for undergrad? Because it will be quite difficult for me to get into a UC other than maybe UCI and Pomona has an the animal science major. Is it better to major in animal science or biology?

On UC Davis' site:
UC Davis School of Vet Med: Students: Application Statistics- Class of 2015 (Entering Fall 2011)
Statistics show that 65 students majored in bio and 35 in animal science. Does this mean that bio majors have a better chance or is it just the fact that they tend to accept more undergrads from UC's and not many UC's have animal science major?

And for Western, I really like their PBL and a more hands on approach to learning. Are they more picky than UC Davis? Western does not favor in-state applicants like UC Davis does.

UC Davis also has a higher average GPA by .3 .......

Sorry I have so many questions..... If anyone has been admitted to these vet schools in the past, please let me know how many tries and what it took you to get in and just everything....
