I got the letter and the email. I'm from Brazil.
If you have taken the PSAT or SAT they get your name and address and send you the letter. Its a waste of money and time.

Hey guys! I am from Canada. I would love to go this conference, however, I don't know how to get nominated! Does anyone have any information on how I can get enrolled? Thanx

Hey, I just received an invitation for this conference and I would like to know more about it. From what I read here, I think it's not such a big deal (the first time I looked at the letter I thought "WOW I am nominated"), but now it seems it is something that most international students, who have taken sat, receive. However, it sounds exciting and I would love to go there, but I am afraid that it is really expensive, so I consider applying for their scholarship.
I would like to know whether you, guys, know someting about this, whether it is really interesting, do you know someone who got some financial assitance, and do you think it can boost my college application.

bump 10 char

Now that it wont because its common these days. :)

I got nominated for GYLC as well! I'm not interested in politics nor economics. I'm into science stuff, do you think it's worth going?

There's always one representative from my high school every year, usually an incoming senior. I know most of them and they always say it's a marvelous experience. It is expensive though.

Yes it is. I think your summer could be just as good in terms of experience doing other things like interns or volunteering etc.

scam, definitely. cant find it anywhere legitimate

it's not a scam. 2 of my friends went during may 2007. they said it was a good experience but expensive as well (around 2 lakhs). not worth it IMHO.

Haha, i got it too twice--once in 10t grade, and once in 11th grade..

Is this thing good for CV?? Especially for a senior who's going to attend college this fall..

bump........

GYLC invites are sent out to practically EVERYONE with a SAT score above 1900. In fact, I've even seen guys with ~1500/2400 get them. It's DEFINITELY NOT worth mentioning on your resume as it's just too common and it hardly requires you to do anything. Apart from shelling out big bucks ofcourse.

alright, i'll not join then..

i was thinking of applying for the scholarships to go.. do you think it's worth the effort?

I got it, Im not going. It sounds kinda... worthless, really. I mean yeah you meet a few people, go to the whitehouse and get a big shiny certificate after 2 weeks which you pay a ton of money for. Bah.

wait that's little weird...?
i've got nominated, but never took SAT before.

I got nominated frm Pakistan
had SAT1 2270 and SAT2 2380

is it worth 4000 dollars though i am canadian and got it i am interested in global issues and things that it seems to be describing, but if it doesnt help my apps than its a massive waste of money
btw i was 14 when i got it in my AP chemistry class and it wasnt like a special thing everyone (who was in class that day) got it offered but no one went and im not even getting good marks in that class, so it isnt because of the class.

any help?

This is no joke, GYLC is from the Congressional Youth Leadership Council. I have been to a couple of their programs. Their pricey but it was the best experiences of my life! When I get a little older I hope to go to the one in China! You get nominated by one of your mentors, who think you have good leadership qualities. Then the CYLC has to review your grades, and stuff like that.
