Well, I received a letter (in GERMANY) a year ago. I ahve no clue how they got my address, but I don't care. I think it's a commercial scam ($4000 tuition for 12 days???)

i got the same email and i'm from canada. I applied to a school in D.C. so I thought they handed off my email to them, but i called that school, and asked and they said they did not send of my contact info... :-S

Seems legit, but how do they "nominate". I've never never heard of this organization before today??? And apparently they nominate based on academic merit, but i'm not like a super outstanding student.... ughhh i'm baffled

It is legit.
Basically, collegeboard 'nominates' you. Basically, if you've signed up on collegeboard, you will get that 'invitation'.

People on cc have done it and they said it was a good experience but in no way does it boost your college apps or anything since it's an open invitation.

It's a worthwhile experience if you have the money to spend on it; they send invites out every year based on SAT scores or recommendations from previous participants. I suppose like any other activity it depends upon how much you take from it. It isn't as prestigious as it sounds though, but it's worthy of consideration.

International students normally get it in either their junior or senior years.

guys its legit! i have about 20 friends who have been before. It is a great experience- pretty pricy but definately worth it. You do fun things llike model UN. Im telling you it will look great on college applications! go for it if you can afford to! Good luck!

When i got it 2 years ago, people said it was a scam, and it looked like a scam to me. I was like ***?@!? who nominated me? i have never heard of them. and at the time, all CCers said it was useless and that if you put it on college app, it just shows you are rich and got 4000 dollars to burn

GYLC is definitely not a scam. I went last summer for the June 11-22 session. It was amazing. People in my group were from Singapore, the Philipines, Germany, India, Japan, and other places in the US. It was great. NYLC for US students is also really great, I went the summer after 10th grade. If you are interested in politics it is a great opprotunity to really learn about global issues. I went to the DC/NYC one, btw. It is expensive, but ti was worth it to me. I met some absolutely amazing people, and I wouldn't be surprised if in 20/30 years I see them as leaders in other nations.

Any specific questions? I'd be glad to answer.

Congression Youth Leadership Council (CYLC) puts on many different conferences. After my 10th grade year I went to National Young Leaders Conference (NYLC), that is just for US students.

What you are receiving is for Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC), which I attended after my 11th grade year. There are both US students and international students, which is what makes it more interesting. Of course, at the US one I'd say about 40% are US, the rest are from abroad. I don't know about the European one, since obviously I didn't go. (Parents wouldn't let me).
