Whaddya think? (I chance back)

Co-Valedictorian at an ultra-comptitive high school (I suffer from Impostor's Syndrome)
SAT: Math - 800, Verbal - 690, Writing - 670, SS - 1490/2160
GPA: UW - 4.0, W - 4.67
ACT: 33 (May not send...using my SAT instead)
No SAT IIs. I'm scared this will hurt me, but I don't know how well I'd do on them. Most are classes I'm taking this year or ones that I took all the way last year.

Classes: 10 APs, not sending scores of the completed ones (4s)
The rest are all honors or required non-honors (theology, fine arts)
Never gotten a B.

ECs: An anti-bullying group that travels to smaller parochial schools to spread awareness.
Lacrosse (Varsity)
Football (freshman, then one year of varsity until i quit)
Bowling (Varsity...just as a joke for senior year with a ton of friends)
Spanish Club
Math League
Psychology Club
International Food Club (Representative)
Model UN

Leadership:
Student council (only 4 reps elected from each class a year)
NHS
Peer Mentor (hyper, and I mean HYPER-competitive, nationally-recognized program at my school in which I am charge of a group of freshman...only 12 men and 20 women are taken a year)
Retreat Leader
Math and Spanish Tutor

Other awards/honors:
Leadership retreat representative
Invite-only math competition participant (perform atrociously for your own amusement)
Spanish Student of the year* (FLUENT in Spanish...should help)
Peer Mentor (again)

Service: Over 100 hours on various activities (too many to post). One of which I was honored best teen contributor.

Work Experience: Management Intern summer of Junior year at a small business.
...and then I worked at Target (lol @ how terrible that job was)

Recs: AMAZING. I got the coveted letter from our AP Lit teacher who writes incredible letters each year! My other one was equally as respected in the school. I haven't read them (damn waivers), but I'm sure they're both magnificent.

Hook: none

Common App Essay: Great, wrote one about my incredible, inspiring, and cherished grandmother that recently passed away last week (from cancer) and who completely changed my life. She single-handedly shaped my values of friendship, family, and what it means to live. Also, I wrote on her impact on my respect for women (please be a female officer!)

Weaknesses: I'm white (sad) and I come from a higher income bracket. Also, no SAT IIs.

Ermmm I guess I'd just like to say that while I'm very determined in the academic world, I also have a fantastic social life and sense of humor. I'm in a band, exercise daily, etc.
I know I don't have a strong HYP chance, nor would I attend any of those if I got accepted.

Schools:
Indiana University - Bloomington: In with a full ride!!!
Vanderbilt
Northwestern
John's Hopkins
Notre Dame (They accept the 2nd most kids out of my HS than any other in the country)
Cornell
UVa
UNC
Duke

If you read all that, you're a saint. No, seriously, a saint.

Definitely send your ACT. I think you have great shots at all of these schools, but send your ACT also because that 690 V may hurt you. Reaches: Northwestern and Vanderbilt are low reaches.

By low reach, do you mean they’re still low chances?

And yeah, I guess I’ll send the ACT too. I was ****ed about that 690 because a 700 looks at least 20 times better. I just can’t do a THIRD SAT…I’d rather have coffee with Roseanne.

And what do you all think of IUB for premed? These other schools are very expensive and I don’t get any financial aid.

I definitely expect you to get into John Hopkins. Anyways, since you are going for premed I suppose you’d want a free ride to get ready for med school ??

I’d say Northwestern, Notre Dame, Duke, you’ve got a great shot.

For Hopkins I’d say it depends on your major but generally you’re got a good-to-average shot.

And if you say I’ve got a shot at Cornell, I’d say you’re a shoe-in there.

Good luck!

You’d have to have brain damage not to send that ACT! A 33 is in the top 99.something% especially with your SATs not being the highest in CR and writting. Send both. Also, You seem to have a great shot at all those and I’d bet a lot of money you’ll get into one at least if not almost all.

Great shot at all the schools you have listed, best of luck. I’m sure you’ll get into at least one of the prestigious ones you’ve listed.

Indiana University - Bloomington: In with a full ride!!! - Obviously
Vanderbilt- Match
Northwestern - low reach
John’s Hopkins - low reach (premeds prob a lot tougher)
Notre Dame (They accept the 2nd most kids out of my HS than any other in the country) - safety, according to you
Cornell - low/mid reach
UVa - high match (only cause out of state)
UNC - same as above
Duke - low/mid reach

I think you should get into at least half of your schools, if not more or all. You definitely have a great shot at all of them. Should of taken those SAT II’s, but then I again I didn’t really do too well on them. Good luck.

Don’t you hate it when you’re on the brink with like a 690 :p. I remember the first time I took the SAT I go like a 1980 and was like ugh. Idk, for med school after Indiana U is prob not too bad, do they have a 7-year program or something? I knew if I just wanted to be a doctor I’d probably just go to my state school because you can become a doctor from anywhere (at least, according to my parents but they’ve worked hard).

BTW, how are you putting all those clubs on your common app. Are you just listing them on a sep. document or in the activities section? Are you like an officer in all of them, or just a member of?

Also, why not send AP scores or list on common app? They aren’t bad.

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1022659-you-know-you-want-chance-me-chance-back-well.html</a></p>

Thanks for the chance. =)

Yes, I did read all the information, lol, and it seems to me, that, for all these places you definitely have a chance. I mean, you know you’re going to get into Indiana, for instance. However, I’d be surprised if you didn’t get into Vanderbilt and Northwestern. The only two I’d say are low reaches are Duke, Cornell, and possibly Hopkins. All the best!

great chances everywhere except maybe slight reach for cornell

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1022392-chance-me-stanford-ea-one-last-time.html</a></p>

I think you should probably get in everywhere except Duke, which is your highest reach. Send both SAT and ACT. Also, it would seriously be a good idea to take some subject tests. You got 800 on the SAT math…you can definitely do the subject test.

Thanks a ton for the chances guys!

There’s only one more SAT left so I would only have one shot at the subjects tests. I would take Math II and Spanish. Is this still a good idea if a study for them a lot? Or is taking them with only one shot a poor decision?

And what do some of you mean by “Match”? Does that mean it’s a good shot? Thanks again!

Could you guys also chance me for UPenn? I feel like my SATs are in the range, but somehow their acceptance rate was 14%ish last year. I guess I don’t know how their admissions process works.

Also, I’m taking SAT II Math 2 and Spanish. The practice tests (Barons) I’ve been doing are forecasting an 800 Math 2 and about a 730-760 Spanish (Hopefully will improve my December)

Thanks for the help! I chance back!

Indiana University - Bloomington: In with a full ride!!!
Vanderbilt- Match
Northwestern - low reach
John’s Hopkins - Low Reach
Notre Dame- Match, I’d say in
Cornell - Low Reach
UVa - Low Reach (you’d be in for sure if you were in state)
UNC - same as above, maybe more of a match
Duke - Reach as it is for everybody

good luck!
Chance back?

Why is Cornell easier to get into than Northwestern?
