Wharton chances?

Female/NJ/Asian

My academics are extremely weak and do not expect to get in but I decided to apply anyway...

SAT: 710 M 670 CR 660 W
Overall 2040

Gpa: 3.43/4.03w

will have completed only 4 AP courses by the end of the year including AP lang, AP lit, AP MEH, AP Physics

EC's:
field hockey
lacrosse
track
a couple school clubs, held a Publicity position in one

Work experience: This is mainly the reason why I applied/why I want to attend. My mom has partnerships with two international companies based in Asia. I have worked as a primary sales rep for these two companies and one of the two sells products to universities worldwide (Harvard, Yale, Princeton, etc.). The other is a company started by the co-founder of the first online book solicitor. Now, my mom and I are in the process of starting a business solely from the ground since new opportunities have presented themselves. However, I don't know how important work experience is to admissions, even though it consumes my time.

Also, my two separate employers (one CEO and one VP) from Asia sent work recommendations but the English may not be top notch.

teacher/guidance recommendations: Haven't read them

Essays: I thought they were good and my editor liked the topic I chose, but I'm afraid that since I was not specific about the courses/professors/etc. in the supplement essay, they will think that I did not do any research? Which isn't really the case, I just kinda took a different route for this one.

Thoughts?

It really depends… They might think that your mom most of the work especially since it doesn’t seem like you did it independently…

unless a 3.43 is a top 10% GPA in your school, you stand almost no chance at being accepted, sounds harsh but is sadly true. 96% of admits are in the top 10% of their class so it really hurts when the GPA is low. Your work experience if impressive enough might help, but I don’t think it can overcome your GPA. My advice would be to retake the SAT, get a really good score, to kind of offset your GPA a little more and then hope for a defferral and show that your senior grades are much more solid.

That’s true…it was kinda hard to make those distinctions so I described several projects I worked on that were backed up by the recommendations and talked about bridging the communication gap (since I’m first generation). but thats pretty much it

Ohh okay thanks! Yeah I’m taking them again in december. I’m not sure about class rank though since my school doesn’t rank

Does anyone know if it helps if my soph/jr years were mostly A’s with maybe a sprinkle of B’s? the gpa is really suckass because something happened my frosh year and I got legit c’s and wasn’t able to offset it much. Also, I didn’t want to write anything in the additional comments thing to defend myself cause I feel like that’s such a cop out ya know? Plus didn’t want to revisit that time. But maybe I wasn’t thinking very strategically

oy @ Gpa but  @ your work experience
You should apply to Ross (UofM), you have a better chance of being admitted there

Freshmen C’s? The officers might take into account a “positive trend”…

Do you have any URM blood in you? That’s the only thing I think that could save you.

academics are kinda weak so chances are slim unless they’re dazzled by that work experience but generally the case is no. sorry~ :(

Work experience can be very important factor in acceptance to Wharton - however, your scores and GPA are very weak in comparison to the applicant pool, I would say your chances are quite slim.
