Overall, Is this Wharton ED a waste for me?

Not a waste. Good chance.

@f2000sa This guy doesn’t have a hook tho?

@Klayyy He/she has great scores, GPA and good ECs. There are many people like him/her that get into Penn ED. Also the fact that his sibling is already a student helps slightly.

@Penn95 He still is lacking a hook tho?

@Klayyy What hook is he lacking? You tell me.

Do you actually need a hook? @Klayyy I am sure that people with excellent grades and extracurriculars and leadership get in with out a hook. Seems like College Confidential stresses this “hook” that I am sure helps for some but is not necessary for others.

@USPanther what do u think of this gyuys chances

I think its ok, I feel like you may need more EC that show personality like playing on a sports team or being a personable person bc i think Penn tries to see that too

Broo…
He plays soccer and shows to be a leader in pretty much everything. I doesn’t think he has a hook tho because he’s pretty ordinary outside of that.
@USPanther @f2000sa @penngirlpending

@Klayyy I don’t know what you consider to be a hook. A hook traditionally means an athlete recruit, a legacy (large alumni donations)–but at some schools, legacies aren’t much of a leg up, or a URM/low-income applicant (Questbridge, Posse etc).

If you think a hook is something like curing ebola or writing a new york times bestseller, then you got it wrong buddy. I think OP is a qualified candidate, but as with any Ivy, it’s still a reach, but with a more possible outcome of an acceptance/waitlist.

@Klayyy If he doesn’t have a hook (which is correctly defined in the post above) than neither did his brother. His bother is currently studying at Wharton so…

@Klayy Not every student who gets into Penn or other ivies has made a revolutionary invention or started a successful company. There are many people who get in with just being very good students, having good extracurriculars and scores. You don’t need to be a math olympiad champion or an intel science competition finalist to get in.
