Wharton: low gpa but great leadership?????

I have around a 3.3/4.0 gpa and applying to wharton. i have a 30 act and i am incredibly inclined to go to wharton for health care management.

i went to gov school for health care over the summer and wrote a research paper on reducing health care costs, one of the only students, and getting my superintendent (wharton graduate) to write me a letter of rec. im president of student council and on the board of school directors (represent 12,000 students).

My most important activities would be organizing a basketball tournament in 2005 to raise over $10,000 and changing school policy, which is persuading the school board to use the PSSA(pennsylvania state test) as a graduation requirement through a seven-month analysis. How much would these examples of leadership help? Also, I can add that I'm unique that I can be a leader in health care on my why penn. Does it also help that I persuaded the board to use the PSSA test if I'm applying to Upenn?

Can these activites and such offset my low gpa and test scores?

Thankssssss.

i hear wharton cares about two things: leadership and math.

Seems like you have the leadership part (although wouldn't 2005 place you in like freshman year....?)

Dunno about your math part.

And yes, I think your gpa will be very difficult to overcome. To be honest, I doubt it can be offset.

It's worth a shot though. I definitely think you have a chance cuz of the leadership.

i got a 730 on the Math II and got an A in honors calc and AP Stat last year. I currently have Calc AB and taking BC second semester

More than likely you're not competitive enough for Wharton. Scores are just way below the average range.

A school as competitive as Wharton requires not only leadership but a also a great gpa. When you're competing at that level, everyone's gpa is probably at the top 5% of their class and have excellent leadership experience.

try, you never know with these things/

its mostly luck and appeal, i think

A 3.3 will kill you if you go to any public school. Keep in mind that there are applicants with everything in their favor. 2300+ SAT1, 2300+ SAT2, val, legacy, leadership, etc.

has anyone from wharton had an experience with low scores or gpa get in? I feel like i maybe get waitlisted. that would be better than getting rejected.

how many students does wharton waitlist in regular decision and accept from that category?

Also, can a very strong Why Penn essay help? I integrated mine on wharton's only business program w/ concentration in health care that could help.

I don't know about the rest of your questions, but I can attest that a strong "Why Penn" essay can definitely help you out. My scores and numbers were good when I applied to SEAS, but my awards and primary essay were somewhat lacking - I think that is where my strong why penn essay came to my rescue. My adcom said she noticed my enthusiasm for Penn and that was one of the reasons I got accepted. So keep your head up.
