This is not a joke. Please help me figure this out. I was lucky enough to be admitted into the business program at both these great schools. I prefer Gtown's location and loved the students there. But Wharton is Wharten. Help.

If you want to study business, you should come to Wharton. I’m interested in knowing what you prefer about D.C. to Philly though.

Oh, and congratulations.

I guess it really depends on where you want to go in life. Not saying any of the two programs are bad but wharton will definitely give you an edge if you plan on being very focused on business or even more so finance and is the traditional feeder school of sorts for wall street. That said, if you don’t like how the market is turning out or you prefer a less career driven life then go with which you personally like better. Just my two cents but the market will recover eventually (and will definitely be better in 4 years time) so I’d make the decision based on lifestyle. Career-driven, wharton would give you an edge. Otherwise its personal preference. Hope that helps and congrats :D

I was faced with the same issue when I applied to college 3 years ago. I loved Georgetown and being from Maryland I loved D.C. However, I knew that I wanted to study business and there is no better place in the world to study business than Wharton. Career wise, there is no place that a Georgetown grad can go to that a Wharton grad can’t, the opposite is not necessarily true. Georgetown is a great school but Wharton is in a completely different league.

Goodluck

Could you explain what Georgetown has over Wharton?

The comments about the attitude at Penn scares me a bit. Read some of the comments. Most of the ones from student in Wharten are negative. They dislike their peers in the school. Not really an atmosphere I want to spend four years in.

http://www..com/PA/UPE_comments.html?page=24&type=&d_school=The%20University%20of%20Pennsylvania

but it is arguably the best business school in the world (no offense intended to anyone…)

If you really are serious about studying business, Wharton is the way to go.

I think you should go to Georgetown. Just because “wharton is wharton” doesn’t mean anything. Georgetown is a better traditional “college experience” its in the Big East for goodness sakes!

and im not just encouraging you to go to G’town cuz i was waitlisted at wharton either… i swear ;)

“Wharton is Wharten”

No. Wharton is Wharton.

The only ones who dislike their peers are the ones who run onto the computer to complain about it. Trust me, the kids at Penn are awesome and the Wharton students are no different. Wharton is the hands down choice here… Georgetown has nothing on Wharton - anywhere.

hard to believe you got in when you cannot even spell the school

yeah, it hard to let up on Wharton, it seems counter-productive unless you would hate your time there (which is unlikely). If you are a go-getter and take initiative, then you’ll probably like the Wharton atmosphere and love your time there. Kids who aren’t very driven hate the school because everyone around them is, and they deserve to be hating the school.

Those are the two schools I want to go to more than anything.
So I’m incredibly jealous
What are your stats?

If you put “location,” some negative comments on the Daily Pennsylvanian, and the fact that you “loved the students” at Georgetown ahead of academics, career opportunities/networking, and prestige, then you probably should not go to Wharton.

QuakerOats415 - As you can probably surmise, the post was typed quite quickly and therefore I had a typo - absolutely no reason to be arrogant. I do understand what you are saying about the negative posts and I realize that. Are you a Wharton student?

stevenbyer - You are just nasty. If you took the time to read my post, you would see that I spelled it correctly twice but had a typo once. I do hope that you do not go to either Gtown or Penn because I would hate to have peers like you.

I am looking for guidance and help which is what I thought College Confidential was for. Please keep your negative attitude to yourself.

No I’m not a Wharton student but I’m going next year and I know Wharton students and have been on campus a few times, never having a problem with the people. And I’m not being arrogant, you had the same typo twice so my guess was you had it mixed up and it was funny.

No negative attitude here - Penn is just better for business hands down. I know Georgetown has a strong international business program but even that I don’t believe can stack up with Wharton. Either way, Philly is much more awesome than DC… and Georgetown’s basketball team isn’t even sick anymore. What happened Hoyas?

QuakerOats,
Did not realize I made the typo twice - sorry.

Where are you from? I am just afraid of what I have been hearing about the atmosphere. That book Running of the Bulls does not showcase the school in a positive light.

Larbar, Wharton is competitive no doubt, but I think you have a sensational view of it. I haven’t read the book you’re referring to, but I have heard about its contents. It’s not really like that. I haven’t seen anyone try to pull out all the stops to get an advantage over another student. If anything, after reading that book, you will probably be surprised with how much cooperation there is.

Thanks Chi-Town. It is nice to see current students who are considerate and welcoming.

Everyone tells me I’d be crazy not to attend Wharton. I liked “the feel” of the campus when i visited pre-admit and did not get a bad feeling while I was there but then you read comments like the one posted by honeybunny=P on the other thread and start to think about the mindset of the other admitted students.

larbar, I’m pretty sure you’ll find a-holes everywhere. Stanford was my dream school but this ultimate a-hole from my school is going (he got in on debate, w t f)…so it’s kind of like…how would an a-hole like him get in? (and it’s not just me, no one likes him…he’s just a mean person). Fortunately I didn’t get in and am going to Wharton instead =D

I hope this doesn’t make me sound uh, not cool, I just have a grudge bc this guy knew about someone stealing and throwing something of mine away and found it funny. ahem.

anyway, go where you think you’ll be happier. personally, I didn’t really like georgetown’s campus when I visited, but a lot of people do. dc’s a great city, but I don’t think Philly is bad either…and it’s kind of central-ish in terms of other places.

What’s the book Running of the Bulls say? And I’m from Michigan :)
