I have a really low GPA and class rank. I slacked off my freshmen year and now its too late! The grades on my transcript look awful!! Even though i'm on the honor roll this year i still can't change what i did. Is there any way that i can possibly bring up my GPA ??

Let's assess the damage first. Give us the rundown. GPA, standardized tests, EC's, etc. Then we can figure out a plan of action.

4.4 on the 6.0 scale
i'm in the bottom half of my class
i haven't taken any standardized tests yet
And im in colorguard

Can you change that to a 4.0 scale unweighted?

i guess it would be something like 2.4

Ooh. That is pretty low. Honors classes? APs? Any talents or hooks?

nope. all i take is on-level courses

Ok, maybe you won't get into Harvard with those grades.
You still ave a chance at many very good schools.

Or you could do 2 years at a CC and than transfer into a college. You even save some $$ this way.

Wait....are you a sophmore in high school?

Ok. Try working your butt off junior year. An upward trend with a lower GPA is better than nothing. You live in Texas? Try these schools. They're not great, but if you get serious, you can build up your GPA there and perhaps transfer into the UT system.

The following Texas publics have between 80 and 100% acceptance rates (I'm skipping Hispanic serving and historically black schools, but if you are black or Hispanic, you may want to check those out as well):

Angelo State University
Midwestern State University
Tarleton State University
Texas A&M - Corpus Christi
Texas A&M - Galveston
Texas A&M - Kingsville
University of Houston

Thanks guys!!

ohhh. your GPA isn't deadly it's a2.93 on the 4.0 scale(cross multiply.divide)
