So I am a sophomore at a top high school. I got 3 b’s my freshman year with a 3.75 GPA. My b’s were in geometry and 2 semesters of honors english. This year first semester I am on track for 2 b’s. Am I lowering my chances considerably for a UC? I am a California resident and I am taking two AP’s AP world and AP computer Science.
Freshmen year is not considered at all unless you got D’s or F’s.
For UC’s , its the grades in sophomore and junior year that count.
Berkely / LA : UC GPA average: 4.1+
Davis/SB/Irvine/SD: Limit at 4-6 B’s. (4.03-4.1 UC GPA averages)
For SC and the other UC’s, they are more lenient on GPA. (3.7-3.9 Weighted GPA Averages.)
All UC’s use a “UC” GPA system.
Summary:
2 B’s doesn’t hurt you but be careful. I got about 1-3 B’s every year and my UC GPA came out to be around 4.00 by the time I was a senior.
All UC’s use a “UC” GPA system (If you don’t know what this is I can explain)
Your sophomore course load is already looking good, just maintain a strong junior year and try not to exceed 4 B’s or so, then you’ll look good for most of the top UC’'s. (Don’t forget that SAT’s are a big chunk of your chances, 2100+ on the SAT will support your GPA well)
Thanks!
