What are my chances at JMU, my dream school (James Madison University)

I am an instate applicant
I am a rising senior in high school
I have a 3.51 weighted GPA
I dont know my unweighted GPA
1620 SAT (all three sections, low I know) - I plan on retaking it
1070 SAT (on a 1600 point scale)
I am a full IB Diploma candidate
International Finalist for DECA
Two time international competetor for DECA
DECA officer
German Honor society member
Lifeguard

Also, should I apply early action, or not?

1.) learn how to spell competitor
2.) Your SAT is about right at the 25th% which isn’t great, but at least its within range. Get it up to a 1700 or even 1670 and I would say you have a decent shot.
3. That’s a low weighted GPA but then again, I’m not really familiar with JMU. I would say you need a UW GPA of at least 3.3 and then a weighted GPA of about 3.7 (but that’s just me)

Sorry that wasn’t much help, but good luck!

I would appreciate a longer, more indepth response with some actual statistics and personal accounts or experiences with the school. Also I dont understand why you commented when you “arent familiar with the school”…but thats just me.

I am decently familiar with the school. I thought you wanted some help, excuse me. I gave you your SAT match up, and tried to help you. Someone’s being a little prissy…like damn.

JMU is my dream school too. I have the same GPA and I have been looking around a lot and people with 3.5s can definitely get accepted. You need to get your SAT up, the Reading+Math needs to be in the 1200 range. Your EC’s are alright, and they really like it when applicants have had jobs so the lifeguarding looks really good. Write a strong personal statement that will make you stand out, your stats are borderline so you have to make them like you. Good luck!

Also, just go ahead and apply early action, I am, it can’t hurt.
