What are my chances at the University Of Michigan?

I go to an elite private school, and have never gotten below a B as final grade. Our gpa is calculated on a scale of 12 and therefore is handled a bit differently. I took my first SAT with no prep and received a 1780, assuming I can raise the SAT to at least 1900, with legacy at Michigan, participation in many musical and theatrical ensembles/performances, Mock Trial, GSA, and the Student Run Fashion Show, what are my chances? How about at The University of Wisconsin with legacy as well.

Thanks!!!

What fraction of classes you got B? UMich put GPA as the most important factor but it needs to be in the context of rigor course and your school profile. The average admission GPA last year was 3.85 and 21% of enrolled freshmen has GPA 4.0 which is all A throughout high school. Nevertheless, your current and projected SAT scores are rather low. The mid 50 last year was 2040-2260. Legacy would help somewhat.

I take all accelerated classes and 3 ap’s. We are reputed as highly academically rigorous school. If I could get my SATS in the 2000 range, knowing the info you know, what would you say my chances are, applying Early Action, as well as visiting once or twice.

You have not answered my question on grades which is essential to estimate your GPA. Are you in state or OOS? What is your intended major? It is likely a reach for right now.

In AP euro I received a B, also, in the sciences, which I struggle with (chem, physics) I plan to major in English with a writing track, or go in Undecided LSA. I understand that it’s a high reach right now, but with a great essay and an sat in the 2000 range, is it a lost cause?

Let me put it this way, if you have more than 15% of classes getting B and your SAT is below the 25th percentile (2040 for last year, the chance is slim unless you are recruited or with legacy.

LSA and does not admit by major. They do ask you what your intent is on the application but it has no bearing (as far as I can tell) on the decision making process. That’s actually one of the nice things about Michigan, it’s easy to change unlike some other schools but it means that a weaker Math / Science matters even if you are planning an English degree.

I do have legacy! My father went to Michigan and so did my Great Grandfather. If I could get my sat to the mid 2000 range, would you still consider my chances to be extremely slim? Thanks a ton!

Double legacy does help, but still try to bring up your GPA and scores.
