I have a 3.7 unweighted GPA, along with 5 total AP classes, and several honors along my college career. My SAT is a 1310 and a 29 on my ACT. I am actively involved in my community as a member of the local fire department responding to calls daily. I also work at a country club. A downside of this is that these are my only extra curricular because they consume so much time. I plan on studying animal science and eventually going to Vet School. What are my shots??
high school career** not college career
@plytnch22 your GPA and SAT are below the averages of what was admitted last year. I would guess that your UF recalculated GPA would be somewhere between 3.9 and 4.2 based on what you told us. The average last year was 4.4 and the 25th percentile was 4.2. The average SAT last year was 1360.
However, UF uses a ‘holistic’ process for evaluating candidates, so other factors are considered and are important.
I would think that you would need a very compelling essay that really represents who you are and why you would be an asset to UF. Since your extracurriculars are limited to your working, that would be something that you might want to work into the essay. If there is a reason why you have to work so much, that would be good for UF to know. Also, you have time to take the SAT again if you feel that you can improve your score.
UF compares you to your peers. Depending on how you compare to your classmates and your essay, determined if you’ll get in. You’re a strong applicant and have a good shot of getting into many universities, so congratulations.
Current UF student here, I’d say your chances are moderate to moderately low solely based upon your test scores and GPA, however UF is quite unpredictable with its selection of admission candidates so I certainly would not be suprised if you were offered admission! As long as you wrote very strong essays about something your passionate about I believe you have a decent shot. However, I would definitely try to get those scores up if you could. Go Gators!
My D got in and started this fall with a 1290 SAT, 4.5 GPA, good blend of AP and honors HS classes, huge volunteering and sports. So even with the low SAT, she made it. So it is possible!
Vet school is super competitive. You might actually do better at a school that is not as academically intense as UF.
