What are my chances?(CMU, Emory, Northwestern, USC, and Georgia Tech)

I'd love to get chanced for CMU, Emory, Northwestern, USC, Georgetown, and Georgia Tech, specifically in linguistics or information science. Also, what other honor societies and ECs should I be working on? I know my ACT score is low for Northwestern, but I was wondering anyway. Sorry for listing so many schools, but I am really undecided. I'd be happy to chance back anyone who asks!

--------------------------------Sorry in advance, this is a bit long.---------------------------
College: 8 classes(Botany, Computer Networking, Industrial Safety(ha), Introduction to Business, Criminal Justice, English Composition I, and College Algebra) and enrolled in three more(Psychology, English Composition II, and Oral Communications/Speech)
GPA: 4.0 UW / 4.7 W(Homeschooled so ehhh)
Class rank: 1/1(Homeschooled)
ACT: Composite 31(equivalent to 2100ish on SAT(Superscore 32)) English 30(32 for superscore) Reading 33 Math 33 Science 28(I just can't manage the science section)

EC's:
Volunteering at the library(5 hours a week(total of 100))-Continued
Leader in church youth group(300+ hours)-Continued
Volunteering at the local food pantry(450+ hours)-Continued
Part time job as Little League umpire/scorekeeper for two years

Honors:
Phi Theta Kappa
Duke TIP
No more honors because they are sorta hard to find with homeschooling and the ones available are meaningless(eg Mu Eta Sigma)

Other Stuff:
Income Bracket: 100-120k
Arkansan
White
Male
I think my essays should be pretty good(Everyone does tho).
My recommendations should be amazing(One from English Composition I teacher and the other from College Algebra teacher)

Bump

Your gpa is really good, yours e.cs are also really good, the fact that your taking college classes is a plus, shows your willing to challenge yourself, but the only thing holding you back are your sat and act scores.

Your sat is better than your act, but your still kind of on the lower end of the scale for those tests at those colleges, but I still think you have a good chance at all of colleges you listed.

Emory - Match/High Match
GTech - High Match
Northwestern - High Match/Reach

If possible try increasing your act by 1-2 points or try taking the SATs
You’re GPA is great, having a slightly higher SAT/ACT score will boost your chances

Good luck !!

Chance back please ? :)

Thank, ss124081. What do you think about CMU?

What do you want to major in ? @reddr0p‌

Linguistics or information science, not computer science. @ss124081

Oh ok …
CMU - High Match

Thanks, @ss124081 .

Thanks for the chance on my thread  your courseload looks fairly rigorous, and your act is pretty good too. Being from arkansas gives u some geographic diversity, which can help in admissions. Your extracurriculars are fine, TIP is interesting. Overall id say:
CMU: match
Emory: high match
Northwestern: low to mid reach
USC: low to mid reach
Georgetown: low-mid reach
Georgia Tech: match
You have a chance at them all, I think you’ll get into at least one if not more. Good luck!!!

Thanks, @sillyface .

I think you’re a pretty competitive applicant for these schools, and I think you’ll get into at least two of them. Hopefully you wrote good essays.

CMU: match
Emory: low reach/ high match
Northwestern: reach
USC: high match
Georgetown: low reach/ high match
Georgia Tech: match

chance back?

Hi sorry I’m late chancing you

Keep in mind a lot of colleges don’t super score the ACT as each score already covers a broad range while the SAT is more precise. And 31 is roughly 2060

The homeschooling thing is pretty cool but idk how colleges view homeschool gpa.
Cmu is probably anywhere from a high match to reach depending on what course u major.

Emory- low reach
Northwestern- reach
Georgetown - low to mid reach
Usc- high match/ low reach
Gatech- high match

Good luck!

Thanks, @kinaralah‌ . Why do you think GA Tech and Emory are reaches? I have the average ACT score at both as well as the GPA and ECs. What am I missing?

I said tech was a high match  and I feel like you would need 2100 for emory to be a solid match as although their average says it’s around high 2000s, you see a lot of people here with 2100+ get rejected. This probably means the accepted kids with 2000 had very strong ECs or GPAs. I just feel like your ECs are slightly lacking and unfocused and I’m really not sure how they will view your gpa as a homeschooled student. With all that being said, I’m sure u can get into both of you write a killer essay.
Good luck!

Thanks a ton for elaborating, @kinaralah‌ . What would you recommend for me to get involved in EC wise? Id like to get it together but as a homechooler some ECs are hard for me to be exposed to/notice.

Thanks in advance,
Reddr0p
