I am an out of state (Wisconsin) high school student with a 3.47 Unweighted GPA, 4.5 Weighted GPA, 4 AP Exams, College Preparatory Diploma, 4 years of Programming Experience (C++’ Java, Python)
I am bilingual (English and Portuguese) and a Dual Citizen (Brazil and the U.S.A)
red flags:
A minor in school suspension in 9th grade
Autism
2.24 GPA my freshman year then a comeback of 3.6 GPA+ 10th, 11th ,12th grade
What are my chances at UC Berkeley EECS and Rose Holman?
UC GPA unweighted, capped weighted and fully weighted?
https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
OOS Honors do not get the extra weighting, only AP/IB or UC transferable DE classes.
SAT/ACT scores?
EECS is a Reach regardless of your credentials and a High Reach if your Capped weighted UC GPA is below at 4.2.
Can you afford $65K/year with little to no FA for UCB?
SAT Score: 1,530/1,600
ACT Score: 34/36
AP Exams: Comp Sci A, Comp Sci Principles, Physics C, and Human Geography
Extracurricular Activities:
3 years of FTC Robotics
2 Years of Varsity Basketball
Your scores are great but what about your UC GPA’s? If you are not in the 4.2+ range Capped weighted, EECS will be an extremely tough admit.
4.22 Weighted UC GPA
If the 4.22 GPA is your Capped Weighted UC GPA vs. Fully weighted, then UCB is still a Reach, more so for EECS vs. CS in the College of L&S.
2018 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 4.20 or above capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 37%

3.6 GPA in 10th-11th grade probably means that your UC-recalculated weighted-capped GPA is around 3.9. This means UCB generally a reach. Since EECS is one of the most competitive majors there, you should consider UCB to be a high reach.
Your post is slightly confusing - are you saying that you’re at 3.47 now after having been at 2.24 after freshman year? That’s a huge difference as opposed to 3.6 for 10-11th grade. Please clarify. UCs only care about classes taken in 10th and 11th grade. Specify your UC Unweighted, weighted capped GPAs.
To go from 2.24 in 9th to 3.47 at the end of 11th means you would have had to have virtually all As, not a single B in 10th and 11th. Please confirm if this is the case.
For Rose Hulman your in better shape. If you can visit, I would highly suggest it. You will have a meeting with admissions right after your tour to answer questions. Use that to shine and talk about your positives. When my son went to do the tour we didn’t know that would be part of it. He was in tshrit and jeans. No need to dress up, it’s very casual.
RH is a very specific small school. People we know there really like it. My son enjoyed the tour but ended up at a big ten engineering program. He wanted big.
Are you applying instate to Wisconsin? That’s a good program
@ProfessorPlum168 I went from having a 2.24 gpa my freshman year and I have it clicked in my mind now and I have been getting all A’s now without any B’s. My girlfriend challenged me to work hard for her and that is what I have been doing. I have applied so far to UCI Software Engineering, Rose Hulman, San Jose State and Cal Baptist U for Software Engineering.
I have also done 2 years worth of college on Lumerit Unbound so, I might apply to Berkeley EECS as a transfer major.
I am hesitant to leave the state and move somewhere else for some reason. My girlfriend is in the Navy so, we’ll settle down and get married after her 4 years are up.
@MilesRoyeet2003: Even if you have college courses/credits on your transcript, you will still be considered a Freshman with college credit and you will apply as a Freshman not a transfer if you took these course while in HS.
So in 10-11 grade, you have a 4.00 unweighted GPA?
@ProfessorPlum168 I have a 3.47 Unweighted GPA
freshman year-2.24 GPA
sophomore year-3.89 GPA
Junior year-4.0 GPA
ok, your GPA then is much better. You still need to follow along and tell us UC unweighted GPA, UC capped weighted and UC uncapped weighted. Use the site https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/ to calculate this. This is only for grades that you earned in 10th and 11th grade, do not include 9th grade. Do not include Physical education courses in the grade calculations.
Also for the UC GPA calculation, only AP/IB courses taken 10-11th grades will be considered for the extra honors points in the UC GPA calculation. OOS HS Honors courses do not get the extra weighting. Dual Enrollment college courses would also get the extra weighting if UC transferable and the determination of transferablity is up to the UCB.
