My number #1 as of right now is Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, but I am also applying to several other UCs (UCSB, UCSD, UCI, UCR) and Cal States (SLO, Pomona, Long Beach).
I’m pretty nervous about getting into SLO because my academics are mediocre and test scores are below average, but I have a lot extra curricular and experiences.
So what are my chances?
Currently a Senior in High School
GPA: 4.26 Weighted, 3.68 Unweighted
Top 10% in my Senior Class
12 Honor/AP Classes (9-12th)
SAT (old): 1720, planning on retaking the new in Nov (expecting about 1200)
ACT (composite): 24
Extracurriculars:
Honors Program for STEM: 4 years
Girl Scouts/Boy Scouts of America: +10 years- Gold Award
Editor-and-Chief Yearbook: 2 years
Track and Field: 3 years- 1 year JV/ 2 years Varsity
Part-Time Job: average 20 hours/week in last 12 months
+150 hours community service
Intended Major: Computer Science
For the UCs, take a look at http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1903428-faq-uc-historical-frosh-admit-rates-by-hs-gpa.html .
However, you should expect computer science to be more competitive than the school overall for admissions.
need to get act/sat up for cs. cpslo’s avg act is 33 for engineering and you should apply to ucsc also. also, what’s your uc/csu gpa/?
CS acceptance rate at Cal Poly SLO is around 10% so unless you get your test scores up as stated by @dota2fan, your chances are slim at SLO.
What is your UC GPA? https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
Your UW GPA looks within range for most of the UC’s, but again your test scores need to be bumped up if you are considering CS which is very competitive at all the UC’s. Right now your best chances would be UCR and UCI.
SLO/UCSD: Reach (capped/impacted major)
UCSB: Low Reach
UCI: High Match
UCR: Match
CSLUB: Low Match
CPP: Safety
I would add SDSU and CSU Fullerton as Match schools and SJSU as a High Match if you are interested.
What is your UC GPA? This is what all UCs use in admissions decisions.
Unfortunately, your ST scores greatly bring you down. Therefore, acceptance at some UCs (UCSD and UCSB) may be less probable. I would retake both the SAT and ACT (for which you still have November & December SAT and December ACT) and try to get 1450+ and 31+ respectively. This is especially because CS is an extremely competitive major to get into.
I would apply to CSUs and CCs as well, and perhaps UCR and UCM too.
