Hello,
I was wondering my chances for a strong math-science college like MIT when I have a mediocre 3.7 GPA and have gotten a 84% in a mathematics class once (mostly as a result of depression/family issues); however, I have been a USAMO qualifier with 136.5 AMC 12 and 12 AIME scores along with strong SAT scores (2250 w/ 800 in Math). Thanks
You still have a decent shot, but it depends on many other factors. It’s not that uncommon to see USAMO qualifiers rejected from very selective colleges (I was one myself).
You got a chance. Your GPA will be the only weak part of your app. Try to make a strong essay not generic. Also, any EC’s?
For EC’s: I founded an social engineering club at my school (basically we create things that help our community/school). I also have several patents for varying topics such as wireless charging and an efficient car engine, and I am also an avid coder who created a invention business website (hard to explain and consequently took a long time to code and debug). In addition, I have 100+ hours for various community service activities such as PAWS.
