Hey, I'm a junior and I'm narrowing down my focus for college, since I was younger I've wanted to apply for the Architecture program at Berkeley, but I know my grades aren't good enough. Instead, I'm thinking of going to Santa Barbara for a year for Art/Architectural History and hoefelly apply to Cal as a transfer. First question I have is how realistic it is to expect this, and how much of my work would transfer for B.A. in Arch degree.

My stats
GPA 3.75
SAT 2050, (700 Writing/660 Math/690 Lit)
SAT 2 (World His 650/US His 710/French + English TBD)
AP (5 World His, [almost certain] 5 U.S. His, [almost certain] 5 Env Sci, 4 Art His)

-French Club Sec Freshman Year, President Sophmore + Junior, Probably President Senior
-Social Activism Club Sec Freshman Year, V.P. Sophmore, V.P. Junior, Definitely President Senior.

I also took a few class in Art and Design at a local art school and another 2 at the Community College.

Students with stronger stats were rejected this year. Then again, some with weaker stats were accepted. The GPA is a little weak, and the SAT score doesn't really make up for it. Okay ECs, but good leadership.

It would be better to go from community college to Berkeley than from UCSB to Berkeley. UCs are more reluctant to trade students, while they readily accept many of the CC transfers.

It is true that community colleges have a very, very slight preference over other UCs, but the rates of acceptance are essentially similar if you have a reason for the transfer.

They do put out these stats. In-state (from UCs, Cal States, and the CCs) all get preference over OOS candidates. Certain schools are very tough to get into (especially Haas business and the engineering school), but other programs are not quite as competitive. If I recall correctly, the architecture school is one of the tougher ones to transfer into. As far as the credits--everything you take would transfer.

Your current chances at the UCs (presuming that the GPA you listed is a UC GPA):
