I am applying this fall and my current GPA is 3.95.
I am applying All the UCs
I finished all of the econ classes
And I am doing math 1B now
I got an B+ from Math 1A
EC: Internship at the bank, Translator for the company
and Few Volunteer experiences.
What are my chances and Do I need to take math 1C for UCB and UCLA? Since assist.org does not require Math 1C for UCLA and UCB.
Thanks.
@SDGoldenBear Hi, Can I have some suggestions of my situation from you? THX
For Cal Economics, your GPA is right where it needs to be. Essentially the Econ Department will see your transcript as the following:
Introductory Econ - A (Cal treats Intro to Micro and Intro to Macro as one class)
Math 1A - B+
Math 1B - In Progress
Your grade in 1B will play a significant role in an acceptance or denial. Ceteris paribus…An “A” grade should solidify you as a solid admit while a “B” grade or lower will torpedo your chances.
It’s also worth noting that Cal admits as pre-majors only and you need to meet the requirements to officially declare the Econ major. On average only about 60-70% of all Econ pre-majors are able to declare the econ major despite getting accepted into Cal.
Most transfers with only Math 1A/B under their belts tend to be overwhelmed at the mathematical maturity needed for the intermediate economics courses here and subsequently struggle. It is highly recommended to get more quantitative exposure before stepping foot on campus. I recommend taking Introductory Stats and auditing any combination of Multi-variable Calc (Math 1C), Linear Algebra, or Diff Equations to increase your preparation for the major.

For Cal Political Economy, your GPA is just around one standard deviation above the average…so no worries there. (See Info center link)
You should definitely take Introductory Stats if you don’t have that done. It’s much easier to get that done at a CC then here at Cal.
Are you fluent in a language other than English? If not, do you have any of the foreign language courses done?
They prefer to see at least the second semester equivalent done but are are fairly lenient if you can show that you have multilingual abilities in other areas of your application. You can take the 1st, 2nd, and the 3rd semester of foreign language classes as P/NP so adding a class is an easy way to strengthen your application.

@SDGoldenBear
Thanks for reply!!! I am really appreciated about it.
Actually I am an international student, so English is my second language.
And I finished Math 10 (Intro Stat) class already.
I was just thinking that if Cal admission is going to reject me without Math 1C done.
I think I am going to try hard anyway.
Again, Thanks for reply. It is really helpful for me.
