What are my chances for University of Michigan: Ann Arbor???

I'm planning on applying there early (EA). I know my stats are great but I would really love to get in there early.

UW GPA: 3.2ish (standard freshmen year -> honors sophomore and junior year -> honors/APs senior year).

SAT I: 1800 (I'm gonna retake for a 2000)
SAT II: Math II- 780, Biology (going to take Nov.)- probably 650ish

EC:
- Volunteer at nursing home for 3 years (100 hours~)
- Journalism club for 3 years
- Internship at lab during summer of 07 (130 hours~)
- Worked at friend's uncle's convenient store in summer (dunno if it counts)
- Tae kwon do (started this year)

Rec:
I think these are going to be great

Essay:
Hoping to try and make up for all the flaws (gpa, sat, ec) I have elsewhere

Some other stuff:
I took some courses (3) in a community college over the summer and received A/A-/A-. And I'm taking 2 AP classes this year and the rest honors, and I think I'm going to be doing really well in them (though it senior grades doesn't factor into gpa, will that be looked upon in contrast to my low 3.2 gpa?)

As you can see, none of my stats are outstanding, but what are my chances for UMich (being my first choice)? University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill? UConn? Indiana University Bloomington?

UMich - Low Reach
University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill - hmm...
UConn - ???
Indiana University Bloomington - grr...

^ O_o are you freaking serious? UMich is a low reach for me? I thought it'd be like a super reach! How about the other schools

35% at UMich
don't know about the others

Do I have a better chance of getting in if I applied early or regular? Because if I do well on my grades senior year and I apply early, they won't be able to see it, but if I do regular on the other hand they will. Let's say they don't take me for early, will they defer me and if not could I reapply regular decision?

One more question: for the schools I apply for early, will I get the results back (whether I get in or not) before the regular deadline?

umich doesn't care about your senior grades
apply now to umich

UM and UNC are pretty much in the same calibre. They are known as one of the "Public Ivies". I used to be neighbors with one of the admission counselors at UM and she told me that for UM, you need at least a 3.7 to be safe. There are the few outliers where people with 3.3s get in, or athletes..but really, you might have a fighting chance if you write great essays. But your SATs are a little low. Im assuming its the same for UNC
You should have No problem with Indiana and UConn though.

Good luck.

Yeah UMich is a definite reach with that GPA

so like 30% I get into umich? how about the other schools?

a reach is a 15-50% chance IMO

bump......................

bump......................

ok voodoo, if you're instate for either unc or umich, then i'd say the one in the state you live in has the better chance. regardless, it's a reach. you're in at uconn and iu though.

chance me too http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/569604-so-last-one-had-too-many-errors-one-s-better.html

Your grades are way below Michigan's standard. Common Data Set says it's over 3.7 average (and tougher for out-of-state). I can't imagine that many 3.4s get in, let alone 3.2.

I don't think essays/recs will help because much of it is numbers driven.

SATs are on the low side as well.

Grades are low for Indiana, but SATs solid for IU.

I would think that UNC would be tougher than UM.

there any decent schools out there that I'm NOT screwed for?

there any decent schools out there that I'm NOT screwed for?

You have a much better chance at UM over UNC. UNC requires that something like 85% of all students there come from North Carolina, making the OOS acceptance rate very low. UM would still be a reach for you, though

You guys think I have a really good chance for Indiana University and UConn? Think I have a 30% even chance for UMich if I applied early action? Because the % on collegeboard is like 50%

bump....................

dude if you're aiming for umich and are OOS, a 1800 SAT kills you + your low GPA murders you....not to be pessemistic, but 'tis the truth. BTW I'm also applying to Umich and even with my higher stats, Umich is a high match for me...
