What are my chances for Vanderbilt?

I have a 33 ACT (not great for Vandy, but I’m applying ED1 so I was hoping that would help) and 1510 SAT (I took it again to raise my scores and they should be out in a few weeks). I’m taking and have taken as many AP and Honors courses that my school offers and I am #19 out of 289 seniors in my class (top 10%)

I have been on a USA swim team all through high school and participated in high school swimming as well. I’m also on the USA water polo team that is connected to the USA swim team, as well as the high school water polo team (I have gotten several awards on each high school team). I am also captain of water polo and co-captain of swimming.

I am Treasurer of NHS and a member of student government and I have 427 service hours.

I have a job as a swimming instructor at my swim team’s classes for kids ages 3-8, and I volunteer at meets and used to volunteer at the team’s day camp until it stopped running. I am getting a letter of recommendation from my coach (although he doesn’t write English very well). I also had a job as a camp counselor at a day camp that I had attended for 10 years (I was a CIT for a couple years between being a camper and being a counselor, so I have a lot of experience with kids).

However, I got a C+ in my online class over the summer because of a misunderstanding which I am trying to smooth out, but it looks like the C might stay on my transcript. Also, the valedictorian of my class is applying there - her scores aren’t as high as mine, but her GPA is much higher than my unweighted 3.7 know I’m not an automatic acceptance into Vandy but it is my dream school. I even visited over the summer and met my admissions counselor several times. Do I have a chance to get in?

Are you a recruited swimmer or water polo player?

No I’m not

Yeah I’d say you have pretty good chances for EDI. Stats/ECs sound pretty solid. Try to figure out how to fix the online class grade in the next month, but if you can’t, maybe ask your guidance counselor or one of your teachers to mention something in their rec letter maybe.

At this point, just try to do a really good job with your essays, and hope your rec letters are good.

C+ is fixed, I now have a B

Sounds like you’re set then, I think you have a good shot with well written essays.
