We found this site lately and have really enjoyed the information. My D is currently a junior in a small southern state. She had never really considered many options beyond our public state school which is a very good school. Over the last few months, she has been contacted numerous times by almost all of the Ivey schools, Vandy, Univ of Chicago etc and she has started to consider those options. She is a competitive swimmer and is being recruited by Div II & Div III schools but is not interested in going to smaller schools just for swimming that don’t have the academics that she is looking for. Her swim times are marginal for D I although her times are dropping still and could be an option for some of these schools. She is a top 20 - 30 swimmer for our state. She is Homeschooled/dual enrollment at local technical college taking all college level classes (calculus, English, etc so we don’t have a counselor to discuss these options. Her GPA is 4.0 unweighted, 5.03 weighted, Her PSAT is a 216 which should qualify her for at least Merit semi-finalist. She took SAT as a sophomore and that was a 700 math, 700 English 1400 total. She will be re-taking the SAT and ACT soon
For EC, she obviously spends a lot of her time year round swimming so there is not a lot of extra time for lots of clubs etc… She works and for this summer has started the first competitive swim team for our county (she drives to neighboring county for a club team. She sold the idea to the local YMCA and she will be coaching the team and it will be competing in a summer league. We live on a small farm near a small town (population 2400) so maybe that makes her a little unique?
We are going to visit Penn, Vandy, Princeton, Yale, Harvard soon so she can get a feel for each school.
We would appreciated any feedback about her chances. Also is her lack of extensive EC going to be an issue? We are not sure if her swimming will be good enough to be recruited for a spot by these schools but several have said they would like her to walk-on with her times
