I am wondering what my chances of getting into prestigious colleges are.

I really, passionately want to go to umich, and johns hopkins if possible.
I have an SAT score of 1640 but i will take it again (what might be my minimum score that will help me get in?), act hasn't come out, gpa of 3.4 unweighted 3.7 weighted,173/698 ranking, community service club, science club (both only a member), lived in 4 different countries but i am from another country other than the 4, i speak 4 languages except one of them i am still learning (4th year). I want to do a neuroscience major but if not, biochem. I love sciences, i took ap chem and ap lang and comp junior year and taking ap bio and ap calc ab senior year.

I know that my sat is very bad but I really am struggling to make it better (any helpful tips and advices please?) because it will be my third time and if i dont do well, i will not be able to go to the school i really want. i took the bio sat but i did horribly and i wanted to take other sat 2 but i couldn't manage the time properly so i gave up on those.

I need a really honest opinion, no stupid answers please.
if someone could help me with the sat, i would immensely appreciate it!! especially the 2 english section :(

do the admissions team look at weighted gpa or unweighted gpa? do you have any other suggestions where i might be able to go that are pretty good and known well?

They look at unweighted. There are tons of good schools out there, you don’t have to go to those big name schools like Johns Hopkins or UMich to get a good education.

i want to go to umich and jhu not because of their name (well a little bit) but mainly because of my chances to be able to succeed in the future, and these schools are the ones that I specifically love the environment and size…
and another question… my unweighted gpa for the first three years of high school is 3.4, will my senior year gpa factor in? or will i have to apply using the 3.4 gpa?

Yeah, but you also got to be realistic. Your chances are pretty unlikely, and just because they offer the resources for their students to succeed does not mean you will succeed if you go there - you could possibly struggle to maintain a good GPA (not saying you will, just saying that they are VERY STRONG schools).

You gotta apply to schools where you can succeed as well. A person with a 1.5 GPA would not do well at Stanford.

Your GPA/class rank/SAT is way low for both schools. Apply if you want, but be realistic. I’d recommend focusing your time on schools that you have a better chance of getting into.

I agree that it’s a bit of a long shot, but you should still apply. Have you considered doing the ACT instead of SAT? Some students do better with one than the other.

is it really only the grades that matter most when deciding college? i mean they can decide by looking at other things more instead of grades or is this response just for me because i have nothing else than terrible grades?

You don’t have terrible grades, but your test scores are a bit low. Your grades are fairly decent. John’s Hopkins is also quite difficult to get into.

Your grades and standardized test scores are not up to the standards set at those schools. Your application is honestly fine – the schools you are looking at are just way too competitive.

i realize it too so i shifted to schools like nyu, bu, stony brook assuming i will get over 2000 on the sat. but i will not give up on umich because its the one that ive been holding on for 2 years. but i dont know why im so stupid when it comes to exams like the sat sigh
