Hi All!
I am currently studying in Stanford University in USA. I am an International Student and I dont like it here. I have my Family (Uncle,Aunt) in Canada. I visited Canada (Toronto) and I just loved it. I want to transfer to one of the top notch business schools in Canada but I have heard it is very intense and the chaces of getting in are very low if one is transferring.
I have a 3.83 GPA. 2100 in SAT. And a similar Secondary school record. Where should I apply for a business school? I have already applied into U of T Missisuaga Commerce Program and York Schulich Business School. UFT ST George Economics. What about Queens? Should I apply there too?
What will be my chances of transfer into each one of them? I have applied into Schulich and UTM because they are in Toronto and I want to be in or close to Toronto. Queens as I heard is closer too and plus its a top business School. How does everyone compare the 4 schools? What are my chances of getting into each one of them? How should I persue them? I applied into Rotman when I was in high school but my documents were misplaced and I did not get in. Although I sent all the documents. I was also accepted by Schulich then but so late that I had to accept Stanford’s offer.
I am really interested into going to Canada but I want to go into a top university of Canada too not just transfer from a university like Stanford to some ordinary school.
Best Regards
I doubt you are going to have any problem getting into any of those schools with a 3.83 at Stanford. But before you do so, make sure that’s what you really want. All of them are ordinary compared to Stanford. Do you plan on staying/working in Canada afterwards? Just out of curiosity, why don’t you like it in the US?
In my opinion, Queens is one of the best business schools in Canada (along with Western), so I would include it on your list if you’re set on coming to Canada. BUT Queens is around 3 hours from Toronto, so I’m not sure if you would consider it close. Out of the rest of the schools you listed, I think Rotman Economics and York Schulich are the better ones. However, with Rotman, your marks will likely be lower than at other schools because of U of T’s strict grading curve. UTM is definitely not at the same level. They aren’t as well known, and there isn’t much recruiting there.
Firstly thanks a lot for such a helpful answer. Secondly yes I plan to live in toronto afterwards. Quite a lot of my family lives there. Plus immigration and work policies are very linient for international students. Here in USA I hear it from all of my International peers that it is almost impossible for an international to get a job into big 5-6 with sponsorship with an Economics degree. As I said I am really worried over what has to come after college so I think Canada is a safer option. Do you know If I can get a job in Canada as well as visa to work there after studying from Stanford?
Lastly, yes I will consider Queens. Do you think I will get in? Wont they prefer their own students with 4.0 or so. They have a very limited capacity hence I am worried.
Tuition fees is a lot over here. Almost double as compare to Canada. And I have no close relatives. I have never lived in hostels so its kind of difficult for me.
