I applied RD to Pitt, and I'm just wondering what my chances are at getting in. I'm fairly confident in my GPA and SAT scores, and I have a good amount of EC's. Any comments will be nice, thanks.
Here are some of my stats:
3.7 GPA
1280/1930 on SAT I
5 AP classes by end of senior year, with a 5 on World and US history respectively.

ECs: Class President (9-11), Model U.N. President (12), Drama Club, Peer Mediator, Principal's Cabinet, NHS, Italian Honor Society, History Honor Society, Writer for school newspaper, JV/Varsity Football (Captain 12), JV/Varsity Lacrosse, Fall Drama, Spring Musicals (lead roles 10-12, with nomination for award in 10th grade), Acafellas (a capella singing group), Madrigals (selective singing group),

Community Service: Sang in church choir, coach in youth basketball league, buddy ball sports (worked with mentally and physically challenged children)

2 letters of recommendation and a pretty good essay

I’m out of state as well so that’s promising. And Pitt is sort of a safety school, but at the same time I like the school and I’m hoping to see if I can get some money from it. Did you?

NewEngland, I was just wondering how did you find out when you got in? My application has said complete for at least a week or two now and I’m wondering how I’ll find out.

Your scores/GPA are strong and you should do well in the process. You probably won’t get much merit aid, if any, because they look for around a 1450 out of 1600 on the SAT, but Pitt’s endowment is so large (over $1billion, or about $30,000 per student currently enrolled at Pitt) that you will likely get good/decent financial aid.

Further, if you are from a rarer state (i.e. Nebraska) Pitt my try harder to recruit you (geographic diversity was stressed at the Picture Yourself at Pitt Program I attended).

We are also from NY. Pitt started out as a safety school for my son but he liked what he saw when he visited. The Honors College and the scholarship money made it a top contender.

I got everything through the mail, I got my acceptance within two weeks but I applied in October, so if it takes an extra week or two I wouldn’t be too worried they’re just probably swamped with apllications.

I wouldn’t exactly call Pitt a ‘safety’ school for you considering there have been people from my school (and, according to some ranking thing, we’re one of the top schools in western PA) that have been rejected with those kind of stats (especially if that 3.7 is a weighted GPA. If it’s unweighted then you have a better shot) and the fact that you applied so late. While I still think that you’ll get in, I highly doubt you’ll get any merit money considering the fact that I know many students with 3.9+ GPA’s (UW) and 1450+ SATs that have gotten no merit money from Pitt so far this year.

Thanks! This is my first acceptance to any college, so I’m really excited about it. And if I go I plan on studying political science, maybe along with either history or philosophy.
