I am an Indian-American guy from Texas. I am a junior interested in going into the medical field (not 100% on this tho). I just need help determining what schools I should target, and if they would be worth the loans I would have to take out for them.

I go to a semi-competitive high school (I think, iono the district we're in is really good).

Rank:3/606

GPA:5.6768/6 or 3.95..../4

PSAT: 228

SAT I:
First Time: 800-Math 800-Writing 740-CR
Second Time: 800-Math 790-Writing 800-CR

SAT IIs: Not taken yet, but going to take Bio, Math II, US History

I am interested in Yale, Harvard, Stanford, and Northwestern, with UT as my back up.

I was wondering what should play a role in my final decision between the following colleges, and my chances of even getting into them.

Will post rest later. Please and thank you.

your SATs scores are crazy high. your rank is up to standard and I can say that your SAT II’s will probably have some 800’s. But the thing is, Ivy Leagues and other top schools are not looking for just multiple-choice guru’s. We can’t really chance you until we learn about your extracurricular activities or awards that you have received .

I think standardized-test wise, you are DONE. But now you have to look into other ways to look good for colleges. Have you won any awards or participate in any EC’s? What kind of classes do u take? etc etc.

THe fact that you are a Indian-American will help you.
If the ivy’s pull SAT scores than you will have a 2400, (I heard that harvard only accepted like 400 of the 1500 people that sumited perfect scores but thats still good)

YOu need to tell us your EC’s. Its not just about grades anymore. If your EC’s are strong than you defintly have a good chance at acceptance.

You should defintly visit, and interview at all schools. Base your decision on NOT which one is better accedemically because they are all good. Base it on how much money they give you and on how you feel the school fits you when you visit

thanks for everyone who replied so quickly.

i’ll just copy my resume

btw, the HS I go to is a part-magnet school, and has a medical academy.

I also just got accepted into an all-summer internship at M.D. Anderson, specifically in research.

Should I go into my schedule as well, or is that unnecessary?

I’m just really unsure as to what college would be worth the money I have to pay. I mean, I still don’t know if medicine is right for me, and I don’t know if going in $120,000 debt is worth it. I just need some clarity. Hopefully, I can get it here. Once again, thank y’all for your efforts. I really appreciate it.

btw, pak is wrong. Indian American will NOT help you, in fact, it will be a detriment to you. Why? Because you are considered asian.

And clean that resume up, we don’t need to see every little thing you’ve done, only the significant ones, and ones you are still and will pursue, and you’d put on a college app.

lol oh im 100% catholic-christian. i joined MSA cuz my friends convinced me to, and actually learned a lot about Islam. haha it does look a little weird tho on a resume

Looking good! and follow Poseidenj’s advice, no one will care that you Qualified for a tournament unless you won something at it, or if you only did a EC for one year…

I’d say you have quite a good chance at all of them, though the school’s you’re interested are so unpredictable. I’d say you’re solidly in at Northwestern, though.

Economize your lists of volunteering/ECs into a focused and effective conveyance of what you’re passionate about, and you’ll have good chances everywhere. A great GPA and a perfect SAT score are going to get you into a great school.

Also. the past year, I’ve done internships at M.D. Anderson and the VA.

My income is above 140k, but my dad is retiring due to his heath, so it should go down to around 100k. Also, my parents are paying for my sisters’ tuitions as well.

The colleges I’m focusing on include the following:

-Harvard
-Stanford
-Yale

-Rice
-Northwestern

Safeties:
-UT
-Texas A&M

Looking at my situation, which colleges do you think fit me best?
Are they worth the cost I’ll have to pay?
How much can I get from each of them? (How can I find out what school scholarships I’m eligible for?)
And in what manner should I apply for each of them (I listed them in order of preference)? Like SCEA, ED, etc.

does anyone know anything else that i should look to improve? (esp w/ the ECs).

also, does anyone have possible suggestions and/or specifics to address my questions?
I’ve already looked on each college’s site.
I know my top 3 are need-based only.
Rice and NU I couldn’t find any concrete details (besides $1k for NM).
UT I found pretty much no specifics.
A&M I only found out info about NM (looks like a full ride there).

great academic credentials and pretty outstandin ECs, keep working

i have an advice, if you’re not 100% sure about going into the medical field, then dont go. take that into account cause you have to be really dedicated
