I am a senior this year from Houston. I am 8% currently but Im working hard this semester to move to 7%. I did not do so well on my ACT or SAT; I got a 27 on my ACT and a 1290 on my SAT. I have over 200 hours of volunteer work. Im in NHS and Spanish Honors Society, along with student council. Im thinking about joining some business classes or clubs at my school as well. I have heard of appeals but not sure if they would apply to Mccombs. As much honesty and detail would be greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately, I think UT takes the class % rank from the end of Junior year. Since the application needs to be submitted by 12/1, the Senior year’s first semester’s rank is not considered. That does not mean to slack off, keep doing your best. By not being in the top 7%, your chances are much lower. Apply to UT but do not have high expectations. Look at other schools that can be considered more of a safety that could include UH, TTU, A&M, UTD. You would be an automatic acceptance to each of these schools because you are in the top 10% and all have good business schools.
But do you think I could apply for an appeal and get in?
It looks like appeals are only in the case of errors. https://admissions.utexas.edu/apply/decisions
Even if you were Top 7% your test scores are not competitive for McCoombs. You should apply to TAMU S well so that you’ll have an acceptance in hand while you go through the review process at UT.
