I am a junior in high school and I think that I have a 2.9/2.9 unweighted and a 3.1 weighted GPA so far. I am also President of a volunteer organization called NCL which I have been apart of since middle school and I am going an AI coding Camp over the summer at Standford. Additionally, during this COVID-19 quarantine, I have been apart of another non-profit organization that provides meals to families struggling during these times. I haven’t had the opportunity to take the SAT due to COVID-19(but I am planning on to in the fall) but I did take about 30-40 practice tests and an SAT boot camp and I am averaging at about 1300 so far. I’m not sure if any of that will help with my application but I was wondering what my chances were of getting into UC Riverside, UC Santa Cruz, UC Irvine, and or UC Merced with these stats AND with the fact that COVID-19 has lifted some requirements in the UC application. I am interested in majoring in either Computer Science or Accounting and Finance if that has any influence
Calculate your weighted-capped GPA using https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/ .
It needs to be at least 3.0 for California residents and 3.4 for non-residents.
With that weighted-capped GPA, take a look at past admission rates by GPA range at http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-general/2174563-2019-uc-freshman-admit-rates-updated.html .
Note that CS is typically a more competitive major, so admission rates for CS should be expected to be lower.
You need a minimum 3.0 capped weighted UC GPA to apply to any UC school.
Here is the calculator: https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/
That said, 6 of the 9 UC’s have an average 4.0+ capped weighted UC GPA for admitted students.
Here are the admission rates:
2019 Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.00-3.39 capped weighted and not major specific:
UCB: 1%
UCLA: 1%
UCSD: 1%
UCSB: 1%
UCI: 1%
UCD: 2%
UCSC: 13%
UCR: 18%
UCM: 53%
2019 UC capped weighted GPA averages along with 25th-75th percentile range:
UCB: 4.23 (4.15-4.30)
UCLA: 4.25 (4.18-4.32)
UCSD: 4.16 (4.03-4.28)
UCSB: 4.16 (4.04-4.28)
UCI: 4.13 (4.00-4.25)
UCD: 4.13 (4.00-4.26)
UCSC: 3.96 (3.76-4.16)
UCR: 3.90 (3.69-4.11)
UCM: 3.73 (3.45-4.00)
UC Merced would be your best bet and even that is far from a guarantee. I would look at the Cal States for better options. If you are applying for Fall 2021, test scores will not be a consideration by both UC’s and CSU’s so GPA will be the most important consideration in their application review.
Check this link for average CSU GPA for admitted students by campus.
If a UC is your goal, going to a CC and TAGing to 6 of the UC’s is a good option but only 4 UC’s will accept TAG for CS majors.
You need to look at JC or Cal State San Bernardino!
