I know there are a lot of discussions like this on here, but thought I’d ask.
I’m a Junior right now with about a 4.4 GPA. I haven’t taken the SAT or ACT yet (I’m signed up to take the ACT with Writing on Oct. 24) but I am taking an ACT prep class and got a 28 on a diagnostic test. The diagnostic was the first time I’d ever taken it so I’m expecting that score to come up.
I’m in 4 AP’s, 2 Honors, and 1 Standard (Forensics class, I’m still exploring different careers obviously).
I don’t play any varsity sports, but I have played basketball on a team outside of school throughout middle and high school. I have about 120 hours of community service from this past summer, and I plan on applying for a part time job sometime this month.
I am a member of Key Club at my school, which is an international club that does community service work (although I do not have a leadership role in the club), and I am also a member of Spanish Honor Society.
Finally, over the summer I attended the National Student Leadership Conference at Fordham University in New York City.
Sorry if it’s a lot to read, but with about a year left before I apply, and one more year of high school, could anyone help try to pin down where I stand and what else I should think about doing if I want to get into UF? Thanks a lot!
I also live in Florida btw
I like your profile so far, especially if you can nudge ACT 31 or higher and keep your GPA up. Have you thought of trying SAT?
Here is the middle 50% for UF: http://www.admissions.ufl.edu/ugrad/frprofile.html
Hopefully more seasoned members of CC will chime in too.
Good luck!
I do plan on taking the SAT as well. Thanks for chiming in
Your profile looks good to me. Good GPA, your ACT/SAT will probably be fine, good amount of community service. If you want to be an even stronger candidate just make sure you keep up with a decently rigorous course load in senior year (3 APs at least, if you can). And try to get a leadership role! Run for a position in one of your clubs, or join a new club and run, or even help co-found a club (it’s not as difficult to do as some may think), etc.
Also forgot to mention I’m in the Gifted program. I don’t know I colleges see that or take it into consideration, but I’d think they would
You should speak with your GC. Since you are in Florida there are probably numerous seniors applying to UF every year from your school. Your CG probably has a very good knowledge of what UF is looking for and what you need to do to stand out at YOUR school. Is taking 3 AP senior year considered rigorous at your school or is it slacking off? Do most of the UF applicants at your school take AP Calc? These are things your GC should be able to help you with.
Also, the UF rep is coming to my Ds’s school next week. Check with your CG and see if they are coming to yours this fall they should let a junior get an appointment.
