What are my chances of getting to Harvard or Brown?

I recently visited Harvard and Brown and now I really, really want to be accepted because they’re both super awesome. Here’s all the information about me that could possibly be relevant; ask if there’s anything else that could help you decide. Is it possible or should I give up now?

Me: High School Senior, Midwest, Male, Black/African-American, Muslim

SAT I: 2240 (750 Reading, 760 Math, 760 Writing,)
ACT w/ writing: 33 (36 English, 31 Math, 35 Reading, 10 Essay) (Should I retake? I didn’t prepare at all but the next test date is December 12th and that’s cutting it a bit close)
SAT II : I haven’t taken any yet but I’m taking Spanish, Math 2, and maybe Biology
Unweighted GPA: 3.619
Rank: We don’t do class rank
Weighted GPA: 3.948 (AP courses are out of 5)

AP: US History-4, Calculus AB-5, English Language and Composition-4, English Literature and Composition-5, European History-4, Physics 1-3, Psychology-5, Spanish Language and Culture-5, Calculus BC-5
Going to take French Language and Culture, US Government and Politics, Biology, and Statistics

I’ve taken 21 credits (9th-11th) (we go by semesters so one class one semester is .5 credits). It breaks down to 17 As, 12 A-s, 4 B+s, 5 Bs, 2 B-s, and one C+.

Grade Progression (in order of semesters):
Math— B(taken in 8th grade) , A-, A, A, A, A, B+
English— B+, A-, A, A, B, A-
Science— A, A-, B, B+, A-, B+
Social Studies (I took two social studies classes in 11th)— A-, B, A-, A, A-(A-), C+(B-)
Spanish— A, A, A, A, A-, B-
French— A, A, A, A, A, A

Course Load:
8th— Accelerated Geometry/Algebra 2
9th— French I, Spanish II, Honors English 9, Accelerated Algebra 2/Pre-Calculus (Part 2 of the 8th grade course), Honors Biology, Economics 9, Human Geography
Summer— Physical Education
10th— French II, Spanish III, Honors English 10, AP Calculus 1, Honors Chemistry, AP US History
Summer— Hybrid Summer Health
11th— French III, Hybrid AP Spanish, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Calculus 2, AP Physics 1, AP European History, Hybrid AP Psychology, AP English Language and Composition
12th— Senior Art, Hybrid AP French, CIS University Writing, Creative Writing(maybe, it might change), AP Statistics, AP Biology, AP US Government and Politics

Track and Field (10th-12th both JV and Varsity because we didn’t have that many people), National Honor Society (11th-12th. On exec board in 12th), Diversity Council (11th-12th. Co-president in 12th)

National Merit Semifinalist, National Spanish Exam (Gold 9th, First in State 10th and 11th), AP Scholar with Distinction, National AP Scholar, Le Grand Concours (Gold), some other but I can’t remember them

Random stuffs: Started holding Jummah services every Friday at school.

I’m most worried because my junior year was really rough. I was probably a bit overloaded. My three lowest grades are from junior year. I was taking 7 classes a semester (compared to the regular 6) and 6 of which were AP. The C+ I got was in AP European History.

While I’m a competent writer and can compose a very strong essay given enough time, I’m not particularly close to any of my teachers so I’m not confident that I’ll get good rec letters. My dean might pull through (he’s the Diversity Council supervisor) but it’s no guarantee.

Thank you! And don’t hesitate to ask for anything else you need.

They’re big reaches because of your UW GPA. You would want a 3.8, but you have good hooks, awesome ECs, and an ok sat score. They’re reaches for anybody. It’s worth a shot man

That is why they only accept super awesome students. your GPA is lacking and your test scores are average for those schools. The hook may help you.

URM will definitely help, but the GPA will definitely hold you back - Try to write very strong essays and that may help.

I agree with the previous posters. Your URM status will boost your chances, but your GPA will hold you down. I would say apply to them and hope for the best; it’s a lottery for everyone anyways.

It’s not just your gpa, your ECs are also pretty light but as others have said, it’s hard to know how being a URM will offset these things. Give your best shot. Good luck!
