i got my 7th semester grades back and i found out i have a D. i checked my school grades site and it says i did very poorly on my finals which brought me down about 13 percent, resulting in a D. but as i checked it again, i found out that my teacher had input my score into her grading book wrong and gave me the wrong percentage on my final. although i have emailed her and tried to convince her that she had inputted me grade wrong, she continued to tell me that my grade was going to stay the way it is and she wasnt willing to make any more changes to it when she never even made 1 change to it. so now im stuck with this D and it is my first D throughout high school. and now my questions are:

what are my chances of making it into my schools? (UC's and privates)

and is there any way colleges will accept an explanation to why i got a grade i didnt deserve to the admission of my schools?

Go to your guidance counselor immediately on Monday morning. If a teacher calculated your grade wrong, she CANNOT refuse to correct it (or so is the rule for most schools). If still nothing is done, let your parents loose on them. Guarantee the issue won’t take long to be resolved at that point.

thanks so much for replying. and i do plan to meet up with my guidance counselor on Monday too. but if nothing were to be done and my grade cant be changed, what is the next best thing i should do because i got a couple letters from my schools saying they got my application and telling me to start an account on the school site and i read the part that says grades need to be C’s or better when i update my 7th semester grades. so what would be the next best thing to do when nothing can be done?

Send an email or letter explaining to them why you got that D. If they require proof, have your counselor sign a note or write a short letter explaining your situation. College admissions are generally very cooperative so don’t be afraid to email/write them.

Have your parents threaten to sue the school. Obviously they wouldn’t actually go that far, but as soon as the word leaves their lips, I’m guessing the school would fix the problem in a snap. If a teacher wrote the wrong score and miscalculated your grade, that could have a negative impact on your chances of getting into college. If the UCs want grades above Cs, then you could get rejected because of this teacher. It is NOT worth it to simply let that slide by. It is in NO WAY your fault that your teacher is inept and unwilling to admit to her mistakes and remedy them.
