Im from New Jersey, and UCF is my top choice. I applied exactly one month ago today, and on myUCF it says that my transcript has been received and my application is currently being reviewed. I am starting to get a tad bit worried. Here's my stats:

4.05 weighted GPA (not sure of unweighted)
SAT Reading: 490 best
SAT Writing: 530 best
SAT Math: 590 best
varsity tennis all 4 years...co-captain senior year
in 5 clubs, including National Honors Society, have part-time job
mostly As with a couple of Bs
have had a total of 9 honors classes and 3 APs (including senior year)

My SATs are low, I realize that...but my grades are overall very good and I have 3 recommendations that went out along with my transcript. After reading many posts from other threads, I feel kind of worried but at the same token not so sure of my chances, but I hope they're pretty good. Do you think I'll be accepted for Fall 2010?

They’re probably loaded with applications around this point, so just be patient. I’m pretty sure your stats will get you in summer term, if not fall. If they don’t accept you, something’s wrong… I’d wait another week and call them.

Thanks, and I plan on calling soon just to make sure everything is in. As for this thing with the summer term…I looked it up and it starts June 28, 2010…my HS graduation is only 5 days before that; I found that very interesting

Last year, most applicants with your SAT score were deferred. They needed to retake the December SAT and score higher. Most did and were accepted. Your SAT is very low for current UCF admissions (although 3 or 4 years ago you would have been fine). I would register for the Dec. SAT asap.

Seabreeze, that’s what I don’t like about summer term either, but since my stats are borderline, I have to apply for summer. Your SAT’s are not that low. I suggest taking the ACT. Someone on CC got admitted summer term with a 23 ACT and a mediocre GPA, so I think you stand a good chance. If UCF is your top choice, you would do anything to get in. I’m applying for summer knowing I have to give up my vacation or at least shorten it- that is, if I do get accepted. I still think you have a good shot at fall term. Sign up to take the next ACT AND SAT.

I just checked my application status not too long ago…and it said I got deferred to earn more competitive SAT scores…that worries me, cause I know I can probably try hard enough to raise writing and math…but the reading is something I was never good at…I just signed up for the December SAT (my 4th time), cause I can’t describe how badly I want to go there. Thanks for the advice and help everyone, I really appreciate it.

Wow I’m sorry… Maybe if I tell you my situation, you might take a shot at the ACT. I made a combined score of a 910 on the CR and M on the SAT, and a 1330 on all sections- well below average. I took the ACT and made a 22. A little above average (the average is a 21, if I’ve not mistaken.) I took the ACT twice but I didn’t study both times, I only managed my time a little better. (Take a practice test before going into the real deal) I really recommend trying the ACT. I’m sure that if I studied, I can get it up to a 25 or even better. Best of luck!

Btw, at least you can check your status. I can’t even get my PID!!! Arg!

Their ACT range is 23-27…i got a 21 so I didn’t even bother sending the scores…I found the ACT much more difficult (thanks to the 40 question 35 minute reading section) so I don’t think thats worth it…and at this point I really will do anything to get in there…and other colleges Im applying to have comparable scores, so that really scares me now (and I don’t want to stay home because I could only get into a safety school).

My son got deferrd for fall with a 1080 a 3.9 weighted gpa, graduating hs with asscociates degree, eagle scout, tons of recommendations, volunteer hours, leadership etc. We rectivated for summer and are waiting to hear.

Mathematician…again, it is the SAT issue. Have him retake the SAT in December (or take the ACT). UCF wants to see at least a 1120 (M/CR)these days (or the equivalent ACT score).

I got deferred because they wanted me to take my SAT’s again. They said I was 30 points too low (1110). I responded by telling them I would not be taking my SAT’s again and would like to be reconsidered based on my current stats. Within 2 days I received notice that I was accepted for summer. If you are willing to go in the summer and don’t want to re-take the tests you should let them know right away! I also graduate a week before summer session begins. I heard from someone I know who is a sophomore at UCF and she said all the ppl who went in the summer LOVED it! I’m not sure what I"m going to do. I’m from PA and don’t know anyone else applying to UCF. Its a tough decision.

Don’t worry too much about attending summer term, guys. I’m sure you guys will meet new people! I applied for summer also, and I don’t know a single person in Orlando, even though I live in Florida.

Btw, how long did it take you guys to log onto myucf? I called them today and they said it will take from 3-5 weeks for me to get a PID and log onto myucf. I thought a couple hours was a long enough wait!

Oh…wow…well my combined is a 1080, and I’d consider summer…but I already signed up for the December SAT…so would it be worth asking them to reconsider me based off my current credentials?

my D applied early and was initially deferred for fall last year with similar SAT’s. she took the Oct. SAT again with a little better score. no change. so she filled out the form to change her admission request from fall to summer and got accepted 10 days later for summer. it’s worth a try. if you decide to do this, make sure you mention that you are retaking the SAT’s in the comment part of the app. maybe it will help.

My D who is out-of-state started Summer term in 2009. She flew to Orlando 3 days after her high school graduation. She loved every minute of it and still has a few true, lasting summer B friends. :)

Seabreeze - I found that emailing the admissions office works great. They answered me right away and accepted me for summer even though I never specifically asked for that.

Awesome! Could you sum up what you said? That’d be great, thanks for the info…however, i e-mailed admissions once and they never responded to me, but its worth a shot.

Sure. I basically said that my highschool has block scheduling and I have not had a math class in a year so it would not be to my advantage to re-take the SAT’s. I also said that before I took the SAT’s I took a very intensive prep class which means I was best prepared for the test at the time I took it. I go to a very competitive high school and am proud of the grades on my transcript. (I do not have one C and lots of honors and AP’s). I asked them to please reconsider me based on my currents stats. 2 days later I was offered summer. Here’s the name/email of the person I contacted.

Oh…ok thanks, but i can’t use that reason since I have a math and its my critical reading score that needs to go up…I called admissions earlier in the week and they connected me to a counselor but I left a message, and he never called me back…and I just called again today and the lady wouldn’t connect me since she answered my question, and never even took my name or PID down like the lady the first time did; but I wanted to talk to an admissions counselor about it. Oh well…have to retake the SAT then. But thanks for the info anyway.
