What are my chances?

Hi, I’m just wondering what my chances for getting into SUNY New Paltz would be. I have an above average GPA with a 3.74, and I received all A’s (with the occasional b) in grades 9 through 11. I have several extra curricular activities and I am in the National Honor Society. However, my SAT’s are a bit lower than average, I’m not from New York, and my senior year grades are kind of bad haha. Do you think I have a chance of getting in?

Thanks for any help

Why not post your SATs?

Yes, @phils456. It would help to know your SAT scores.

Sorry I meant to say that my SAT’s are lower than the average for accepted students of SUNY New Paltz, my combined SAT is a 1130 (avg. is 1228) and single SAT score is 1800 (avg. is 1828)

Last year’s mid-50% SAT scores from New Paltz were 1080-1230, so yours is in the ballpark. Good luck.

For whatever it’s worth, my brother is a freshman at NP, accepted with a 1500 SAT out of 2400, similar GPA to yours. He was deferred, then waitlisted, then accepted about a week later, but it did happen.

I believe SUNY is very eager to have out of states students because they’d like a stronger national reputation.

I believe SUNY would like a few more OOS students because they bring more $ with them. Lol. Each OOS student is charged $10k more than in an state student.

Austinmshauri, you’d think so right. But no. That is true for international students even tho they end up costing Albany much more. But for OOS, it is really a matter of desperately wanting the school to develop a national reputation. All the branding to make them seem more like private schools-taking the state right out of the name and the promotion of SUNY as IVY like (which it just could not be further from). When in fact, the schools are nothing like any of the highly ranked state schools. A walk across campus screams “state issue”. People may not want to hear it but people out side NY have not been particularly interested in coming to SUNY (beyond those from NYC suburbs in NJ, CT) Have you seen U of Ill-Ubana or Wisc-Madison or Gainesville or UVA. Then walk across Albany or Bingti campus. It isn’t the money-it is the hope to improve the reputation. The 4 SUNY Centers are perfectly fine medium sized state schools equipped to move a lot of students through quickly and efficiently. Few students end up having to take 6 years or drop out.
