GPA: 3.33 (UW)
Junior GPA: 3.6 (UW)
SAT (2400): 2030
SAT (1600): 1380
ACT: 30 (If I retake I probably could get a 32, I screwed up in english)
ACT Writing: 8
Classes: All C1 freshman to junior year, but senior year I’m taking 3 AP classes, along with one honors level online class
Sports: Tennis (V Junior and Senior year) and Cross Country
Extracurriculars: Frisbee Club (since sophomore year), Chess Club (since sophomore year), Scouts, Summer Job
Major Awards: Eagle Scout
Alumni: 2 grandparents, one cousin, and one parent (BU alumni)
My GPA is a bit low due to a bad freshman year and I’ve been in all C1 mostly because of it. I’m planning on taking AP Stat, Econ, and Psych next year to show that I can handle a tougher workload, and raise my weighted GPA a bit. I have C1 precalc and english, along with an online honors level class next year too (but that’ll be easy). Hopefully I can pull a weighted 4.0+ going into applications for senior year.
I took the SAT again last weekend, and I feel really good about the math section, so there’s a decent chance at getting a 720+ on it I think. How helpful would a potential 770-800 be? I think I’ll submit my SAT rather than the AP scores.
BU is my favorite college, so I might put in an early decision for it, how much would that help me out?
What does C1 mean? We don’t have that at my school?
It means College 1, or standard level classes.
My high school is known for having a much tougher curriculum though, and from previous BU applicants it looks like it got weighted about 0.25.
So I think your ACT is pretty good, could have used a few more extracurriculars- but that Eagle Scout awards is awesome. Good job! GPA is pretty good. Early decision definitely helps out- I think it increases the acceptance rate to 40% or something like that. Also make sure you select yes for the CGS option when you apply to BU through Common App. I think you can get into CGS for sure- which could be a backup if you apply to a different major. Try to take a few more honor/AP classes your senior year. BU really likes for you to challenge yourself- but don’t overdo it. I think you should be fine! Good Luck!
I’m hoping for the college of engineering. I’d take another AP but I’m not quite sure I’d be able to handle the jump from all standard level classes, so that’s why I took an online honors level class. As for extracurriculars, I think that 6 would be the perfect amount. being Scouts, Tennis, XCountry, Chess, Frisbee, and a internship or job this summer.
If I managed to get an 750 or higher on the latest SAT math I’m definitely using that though, and I think that I might actually have done it.
Can’t wait for college, and BU really is my favorite.
You have things going for you. If your school is tough, I recommend upping your scores by 1-2 points for ACT or by 100-200 for SAT, if possible. Other then that, I think you have a great shot. Just make sure you write stellar essays.
Also, I agree with OP. If you love BU apply ED.
