I’m planning on applying UCI, UCD, UCSB, UCSD, UCR, SDSU, SJSU, Santa Clara University and CSU Fullerton. My gpa is 3.55 unweighted and 3.90 weighted in 10th and 11 grade. I got a 25 on the act. What are my chances at getting into each of these schools? Do these universities care about freshman and senior year grades? Lastly, can I take the December act for these schools or is it too late?
I’m planning on studying engineering in college. I don’t know what type of engineering yet.
Is your weighted GPA of 3.90, your UC Capped weighted?
What is your ACT breakdown?
HS course rigor?
Highest level of Math reached by Senior year?
SAT subject tests such as Math 2 and a Science? (Recommended for the UC’s)
For the SDSU and CSUF, you need to select a specific Engineering discipline when applying. For SJSU, they offer General Engineering if you are unsure.
SDSU does not take the December ACT sitting.
Are you local for SJSU or CSU Fullerton (in the local service area)?
For SJSU, SDSU and CSUF, they admit by Eligibility index and major. EI= (CSU/UC capped weighted GPA x200) + (ACT composite x10) or (CSU/UC capped weighted GPA x800) + (SAT Math + EBRW).
Once you have your EI, please repost.
Engineering is going to be the one of the most competitive majors at all the schools you are applying. Your GPA is good but low for the majority of the UC’s along with your ACT. Unless you are local to SJSU or CSUF, I see no safety school.
Some UC statistics and these are based on the capped weighted UC/CSU GPA but not major specific. Expect the admit rates and required stats to be higher for Engineering majors.
Freshman admit rates for UC GPA of 3.80-4.19:
UCB: 12.6%
UCLA: 11.7%
UCSD: 38.7%
UCSB: 53.6%
UCD: 56.5%
UCI: 52.1%
UCSC: 75.7%
UCR: 90.1%
UCM: 96.1%
2018 UC capped weighted GPA averages:
UCB: 4.23
UCLA: 4.23
UCSD: 4.16
UCSB: 4.13
UCI: 4.13
UCD: 4.11
UCSC: 3.96
UCR: 3.81
UCM: 3.71
25th - 75th percentiles for ACT:
UCB: 30-35
UCLA: 31-35
UCSD: 28-34
UCSB: 28-34
UCD: 26-33
UCI: 26-33
UCSC: 26-32
UCR: 22-30
UCM: 19-26
Depending upon which Engineering major, CSU Fullerton, UC Riverside and SJSU could be Match schools. SDSU would probably be a High Match school. UCI/UCD/UCSB would be Low Reach schools and UCSD a Reach school.
Santa Clara probably a High Match/Low Reach school. You definitely need to bump up your test scores.
You also need 2 safety schools on your list. Look at some of the Cal states where Engineering is not impacted.

All the CSU’s and UC’s care about Freshman and Senior grades. For Freshman year, you need to pass all a-g courses with a C or higher. For Senior year grades, you also need to pass all a-g courses with a C or higher and maintain your current GPA since you are provisionally admitted.
UC’s require you maintain a 3.0 Unweighted GPA Senior year, pass all courses with a C or higher and no D’s or F’s since you could be rescinded.
