My top choice school-as a reach is Barnard in NYC.
As other reach schools im trying to decide between Amherst, Holy Cross, Williams, Middlebury, Colby (they're obvi all extremely selective, so I just want to apply to one of these!-that's why they're my reach haha)
As a target school im thinking American University, Fairfield, Wheaton, Pepperdine (something like that) and possibly trinity college.. i cant tell if that's a target or a reach for me?
and as targets: U of San Francisco, Westmont, UC Santa Barbara, Chapman (my dad's from california-im a resident-so i dont think i should have too much trouble with UC school's)

what are my chances for schools like these? and are there any other schools i should be thinking about?
im hoping to go to a liberal arts school on the east coast.. definitely something small and preppy!

Applying early will boost your likelihood of getting in. If you’re sure Barnard is your first choice, try ED.

I’m a Holy Cross grad and the father of one as well, so I’m obviously biased, but I’m certainly pleased that you have HC in your consideration pool. It’s an outstanding liberal arts college, on an absolutely beautiful campus-a great environment for learning, for “educating men and women for others” in accordance with HC’s mission statement. HC has a great junior year abroad program–my daughter spent the year immersed in Spanish culture-so that may be a consideration if you want to keep seeing the world. No doubt the other schools on your list have many great features as well. I think you stand a good chance of being admitted to HC. I believe some of your others—Amherst, Williams, Middlebury, Colby—will be a bit tougher.
I hope you’ll be able to visit Holy Cross and some of the other schools you mention—you have a great list-- if you come stateside as campus visits will enable you to judge the vibe of each college and see how well you’d fit in. Good luck

Coming from Dubai will significantly enhance your chances since colleges like to say they have kids from all over the world. I think you have a strong shot at all, although Williams and Amherst may be slightly out of reach but possible.

Thanks so much. Yes, HC is definitely one of my top choices-as for the others…Williams, etc. I realize they are high reach schools, but I may as well send an app. to one haha, maybe i’ll get lucky.
I’m going to narrow done my list to 8-10 schools in the next month, and then plan my summer traveling schedule since its a bit hectic to travel on the east coast considering i’ve never been there (i’m from california), and i’m coming from dubai. i’m so excited to visit!
KY Crusader- what is MA like? coming from dubai i’m really nervous about the cold weather!

In Massachusetts you will get the full range of seasons and Winter will be, well, Winter. You’ll have snow and cold, cold weather during the Winter. It will be nothing like Dubai. You won’t see any 100 degree plus (38 centigrade) days. If Dubai has an average high temperature of 80 (28C) in February, Worcester would have an average high of 30 (-1 C).

On the other hand, you’ll have an absolutley delightful Fall and the trees will be gorgeous , particularly at Holy Cross, which is, in fact, a registered arboretum. The other New England schools will excel there as well. After a cold Winter you’ll welcome Spring which will be pleasant.

Amherst and Williams would have similar weather, of course, and at Middlebury and Colby you’d find it a bit colder.

Thanks for the info! I’m trying not to put weather at the top of my importance list, but its hard haha

Holy Cross is 40 miles west of Boston and is just outside Worcester, the second largest city in New England. With the exception of Barnard, the rest of your reaches are all fairly remote and in quite rural locations.

i know, it’ll be a change
