What are schools inside of universities?

For example, what is wharton at upenn, hass at berkeley, etc.? How would i apply to these? Say wharton, should I apply through upenn on common app?

You need to check with each school. A college within a university may have a separate application or may not.

Generally, you would indicate the specific school on the university’s common app supplement. But, like the previous poster said, it is different for each school so just check their website. Upenn, for example, has a space on their common app supplement where you indicate the school to which you are applying, such as Wharton. Berkeley, however, does not have a section like that. (they don’t have a supplement as they don’t use the common app, they have their own application. With haas, you APPLY IN YOUR SOPHOMORE YEAR OF COLLEGE!! So their is no application process until then.

Berkeley has several divisions into which one can enter as a frosh: College of Letters and Science, College of Engineering, College of Chemistry, College of Natural Resources, College of Environmental Design. The Haas School of Business Administration accepts applications for entry as juniors, both from current Berkeley students in other divisions and transfer applicants from other schools (mostly California community colleges).

At universities with different divisions, the choice of division (sometimes major also) may have an effect on frosh admissions selectivity. If it does, then changing to another division after enrolling may require another competitive admissions process.
