So far I’m doing the Ayn Rand Essay Contest ($10,000 grand prize) and the Atlantic / CollegeBoard Writing Prize ($5,000 grand prize). I’ve also looked into getting published in the Concord Review. Do any other similar competitions/publications exist? Something that I would be able to list on an app under honors/awards, for example.
I recommend submitting to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards next winter. The first round consists of a regional competition, in which students are awarded “gold,” “silver,” and “honorable mention” keys within their area; gold key winners are able to move on to the National Competition and win a National Medal. Either way, the competition is prestigious and honors an eclectic variety of pieces.
And if you win a National Medal, you can go to New York for the awards ceremony! It’s fun, definitely try it.

There are lots of them out there.
Google freelance essay contests or something similar. Not all are high profile, but it’s very possible to get published and/or win the prizes.
I entered the college board competition. I bet they notified winners by now (the rules said they would need documents signed) so even though it hasn’t been announced I’m assuming that I didn’t win.

I don’t know if they notify you but they said they’d announce winners on the website by mid may soooo guess cb doesn’t know that mid may is may 15th.
@Outofherein2016 @asappebble I entered the contest too and am wondering the same thing…I’m assuming we weren’t notified yet because it said all winners will be notified and officially announced on their website. At least I’m hoping that’s the case

@outofherein2016 @grindboy Ahh the wait is slowly killing me even though I know I probably didn’t win. Have you all heard anything? Do you think they are just delayed in deciding the winners? Who knows…maybe they have already notified them and are waiting for consent and all…Hopefully we know sometime soon!

Try submitting your work to a bunch of magazines (those aimed at teens frex) if writing is your passion. Getting published is always a good thing.
