hey guys! i don’t really know how to use this website but i’m from southeast asia and my report card has mostly As but i got a C in math and D in chemistry (thinking of dropping it anyway) ): but my school uses the IGCSE grading system so how do the schools I’m applying to know this and how do they convert the grade to their grading system?
I haven’t gotten my SSAT scores back yet but i think i did good for math but not for english. do schools look at the percentile for different sections or the overall only?
I haven’t done my interview ): is it too late to schedule one on january?
EC: For soccer, i’m team captain, got an MVP award, most committed award, etc and won 3 tournaments and i’m pretty sure my coach gave good recommendations is that good enough? also, i don’t have any videos of myself playing soccer so should i send pictures or not send anything at all?
For photography, won an honorable mention in an international competition and am also an underwater photographer while scuba diving.
I have more ECs: guitar, swimming, track, etc but didn’t want to list everything out cause it would be too long
also did quite a lot of community service ALSO i own an online shop and made a lot of profit from it if that matters
what are my chances of getting into phillips, deerfield, hotchkiss? or concord and NMH for my safety schools?
sorry it was so long
You should start looking into scheduling your interviews. What grade are you applying for? Your EC’s look nice–have you contacted any of the coaches at the schools you’re applying for? Have you started your essays yet? I don’t really have a say on your C and D but you should search that up since, if it does convert similarly to the American grading system (not sure we have an official one but they’re all pretty similar-- 90’s= A’s, 80’s=B’s, etc) it might make a malign impact on your chances.
Hey HhopefulFforSsuccess2021, thanks for commenting! I’m applying for 11th grade Fall 2017. I haven’t contacted any coaches but i couldn’t find any soccer coaches emails on websites and anyways, what am i supposed to say to them? My school has a slightly different grading system (A*= 90-100, A= 89-80, B=79-70 and so on)
Your C then would still be a C or D in America. I can’t help you any further with contacting coaches but I’m sure if you ask around someone on here knows. Do you need financial aid? I’m not an expert at this, but I remember reading that 11th grade acceptances are low…
If you require FA it will also lower your chances.
Nope, i don’t need financial aid. Also, i just got my ssat scores back and i got 58. do you have any recommendations of any other schools i should apply to with my low grades?
I’m not really sure about that. Your score is far below the average for all the schools you’re applying to right now…I highly recommend you take it again in January.
Not needing FA is a good plus though.
@soccerlove6 I think that if you are very serious about going to boarding school next year you have a lot of work to do in a short period of time. First of all I recommend that you identify several new schools which have SSAT averages of about 60%, and perhaps also a few that do not require SSAT scores. You may also want to identify some schools that have rolling admissions in the event that you aren’t able to get all of the applications done in time for schools that have the traditional January 15 deadline. The Boarding School Review website might be a good place to start your search.
