rising sophomore, working 15 hours a week in the Bio department office at my school, literally just finished my first summer class, Ecology, at noon today. Next summer session, starting the last week of June, I have chem lab. I try to read a lot, and I run a couple miles every other day. Nothing too harsh, and so far I’m enjoying my summer.

rising senior - full time internship

I’m a rising sophomore, and it’s nice to know I’m not the only one goofing around. I had a sales job lined up, but apparently the company had a history of scamming its clients, so I left without a word. Otherwise, I’m taking an online class for my major (electrical engineering) which has a do-at-home lab component, and I’m spending a lot of time biking around the neighborhood and seeing what I can find.

Man, I’d be down for any job right now–staying at home all day is really dispiriting.

^ was that company cutco and were u selling knives?

Nope it wasn’t Vector or Cutco, but it was pretty similar (look up Royal Prestige). Basically I had to sell kitchenware using completely bogus selling points, something like “did you know that the gray layer around the yolk of hard-boiled eggs is caused by aluminum in your water?” Overall, I hope I won’t have to apply to a sales job ever again.

Rising sophomore. Taking 10 credits of summer classes since I couldn’t find a summer job. I’m glad I’m not the only one who can’t find anything at all for some money. Even craigslist people aren’t hiring. Seems like no one needs a tutor either…

Rising junior. Tuesday and Thursday I’m working on campus from 7 am-5 pm. Monday Wednesday Friday the plan is to work on my research project with a few other undergrads in the lab, but our AFM machine is currently broken…so I’m on CC in my bedroom because my roommate is in our living room recording a script for a psychology study on melanoma…once she’s done I’ll go back to cleaning more than I ever do at any other time out of boredom.

Seems like most students don’t have much to do over the summer. What a waste of cheap/free employment for our declining economy …

Not having anything to do is dispiriting and depressing.

I am going in to my 3rd year.

I just got done with 1 job (at an elementary school) and still working at another job (photography) that more or less comes to an end in a few weeks. Then I’m working as a part time nanny.

When I’m not working (which isn’t often), I live on the other side of the state with my bf and friends. I am teaching my bf and a few other friends Spanish with my free time lol.

Oh, I’m also taking 3 online classes and going on vacation.

Next year if any of you are interested in doing market research as a career, apply to NPD Group as an intern. I’m a grad student but most of the interns are undergrads; not only do they hire around 40 interns every year (most in their Port Washington office in Long Island, New York, but they do have offices in other cities like Chicago, Reston, Bentonville, and Houston) but they pay you ($15) AND they hire back their own interns at very high rates. The first year they did the program, there were 8 interns and they hired 6 of them. Half the people I talk to who work here were interns first. They treat us very nice, everyone here is friendly, they have a great work culture and the work is interesting.

Internship program is already going on this summer, but look for it next year if interested.

Hopefully will hang out with my friends a lot, go to the beach, chill in the sun, road trips, camping, and maybe a job. It’s not easy finding a job when you live in a state that has the highest minimum wage :/

Rising freshman here. I’m working at a local water park in maintenance. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than nothing. Besides that, it’s the usual pre college summer full of grad parties and getting ready for next year.

Rising sophomore.

I’ve secured one internship but I might do another simultaneously if it doesn’t kill me since both have great benefits and are paid.
If I do both this early in my college career, it will really look good on my resum

Freshman summer - Participated in a medical program at Yale University School of Medicine (fully paid for with an extra $650 for spending).
Sophomore summer - Doing research in China for 3 months (fully paid for, with an extra $2400 for spending, 40 hours a week).
Junior summer (next year) - shadowing physicians and clinical volunteering as well as taking classes (biochem and pchem) and studying for the MCAT. Not sure what programs and internships will be available then, but I usually look for things to do in the summer a year in advance.
